From what I saw in the first fight, prior to his knee going, Gary is shot. Speed of foot was appalling and the shots he threw were nothign more than token gestures unless his opponent lay on the ropes allowing him to plant his feet - which his opponent did in that first contest far too often. "Knee injury" aside, form what i saw on saturday, he's done.

Also - Reids a journeyman thats been winning on these shows, although I do take your point about most of the journeymen losing - we had Martin Jolley in North Wales against Tom Doran last month. Bit of a massacre truth be told.

I remember the finish to your lads fight, thought at the time it was one of those unfortunate ones where the punch had started before the lad went down - dont remember much else about it though.

Interesting you have a deal for your lad to fight Aaron in Stoke next - when do you think that'll be as he already has quite a few commitments both in the ring and cage coming up, and he aggrevated an arm injury sustained by an arm bar during MMA training (he went into the tournament injured).

And yes, Azi was Welsh Aba champion and beat some top kids int he ams. He's a young 32 aswel, although hes finally realised he wont make 11st with same day weigh ins again, he was dead at the weight.

It was already agreed prior to the date that My lad (Brendan) will box the tournament winner in stoke on 12th october .

And my opinion is that if Gary was shot then i assure you Brendan would have torn him a new arsehole when the met earlier in the year , a shot fighter would certainly not take his power , which Gary did . Its not impossible for a boxer to suddenly get old , but id tend to lean more towards it being that his knee severely hampered him , We have already stated though that id like to get Brendan the Rematch against Gary at some point as Brendan immediately wanted to do so and would have been in the tournament had he not picked up a hand injury just before his last bout 2 weeks earlier .

As for saying Reids a journeyman thats been winning on these shows .... To my knowledge it was only his second outing and his first was a few months ago against Brendan which he won , Think it may also be a bit harsh to say he was a journeyman from what im told of him , i admit to not really having seen a great deal but the impression im given is he was a tough mofo but could be outboxed by quicker rangier boxers who could take a shot at times .

Gary Reid was certainly not a journeyman as a pro but not sure if that was meant or not

i was thinking of the fighters he'd beaten, including your bro, Dean Hickman etc, and to me if you're beating fighters like that you're better than a journeyman

Out of interest Why did you pull Brendan out of cashfighter if he was fit to fight?

As a side Aaron already has a fight scheduled for Oct 12th, so where he'll be fighting brendan next came from is a bit puzzling. Pretty sure Brendan can come up to North Wales early next year though? However Mark Kerr is first in line to fight aaron.

I was thinking about this today and it occurred to me that the British Board would have refused Bernard Hopkins a license. Bernard being on parole until he was in his early thirties. The length of Hopkins' parole was something I was almost certain of but, doubting myself, I did a Google search and was able turn up an articles that seem to confirm it. An extract from one is quoted below.

Hopkins was released from prison in 1988 and was on parole for nine years after that. Hopkins has talked at length about how he was able to turn his life round and how boxing was a big part of that turnaround. The BBoC would have taken boxing from someone in Bernard's position.

http://articles.philly.com/2006-06-08/s ... antic-city
...Out of Graterford Prison in 1988, with a high-school equivalency diploma he earned there and nine years of parole to walk off, Bernard Hopkins took to the boxing ring and became middleweight champion of the world. It didn't come quickly or easily...

They can make exceptions when it suits them as I expect they would've done for Hopkins. How else can you explain Flintoff bring allowed in a pro ring.

Never said Brendan was fit to fight , if he was i wouldnt have pulled him out . (Maybe your a little confused by me mentioning one of my other lads who boxed on the show ) Brendan boxed on July 20th and went into it with a hand injury which he didnt tell me about and only managed to spar once prior to the bout , he won the fight but wasnt letting the shots off at all until he landed a fight stopping flurry in round 2 that caused the opponents corner to throw in the towell, so i knew he would find it more difficult in a prizefighter situation , but i never had to make the decision of pulling him as he recognised this himself and pulled out .

As for where the idea of oct 12th came from , it was from the promoter of the stoke show , Stefan . He told us before the show that Brendan would get to box the Winner . If Aaron is now unavailable then id assume it would be either Gary Reid or Nathan Russo . But im sure we will see how it develops .

We Would gladly bring Brendan up to North Wales , thats not a problem , but timing may be wrong for us , will have to get in touch nearer the time , as Brendan was Originally scheduled for Pro Debut 5th october but that has been put back til after xmas at his own request due to a couple of injuries and wanting another 2 or 3 tough fights under his belt beforehand , so will have to see how the pro situation is by then but if we can do the date then we will take the fight .

Yeah sorry mate, I assumed the lad you mentioend was Brendan.

Hopefully they can meet at sometime in the future. Russo is going pro late this year I believe (you may know better than me on that one but i think that was his plan). A rematch with Reid would be very winnable.
