Max Bursak vs Nick Blackwell ?

Post by 80/20 »

Blackwells team have posted this on facebook

What are your thoughts ?

Another step to soon or a good opportunity?

Good work by his promoter / managment team as at last look blackwell wasnt even in the top 20

Way too soon, had the option of fighting Eubank Jr in an eliminator for the British title that could well be vacant sooner or later, especially if Saunders beats Ryder but they've gone for the European shot on the road instead. He's 22 and has had 15 fights, this is the 3rd fight he's been rushed into too soon. I'd say it's actually very poor work by the promoter/manager, they've done well to get him the fight, but it's way too soon.

I agree it seems that they are taking any opportunity that arises without a real plan other than take it and hope however how many times can you do this before the fighter takes that mentality.

a plan with the points you make in mind that BJS vacates in next 6-9 months a fight against eubank jr is a realistic fight besides if he were to win a ebu at this stage of his career would he be in a position to defend and move on ?

I think this lad has a bright future but is being mis managed

Nick is clearly ranked in British top 20, I'd have him in top 15.

Murray fight he was just plain out of his depth. Against BJS he gave a really good account of himself but again was found ultimately found wanting at that level.

Other than that he is a good solid pro, still early in his career. The European route seems the wrong decision to me

Won't he have a decent size advantage? Might help him out but I think Bursak is underrated.

How the hell does he get a shot at the european title when he's lost to guys at british level anyway?!

probably the fact the calibre of the guys he lost to turned out to be very, very high. With taking the Middleweight champion of the World to within a hair, and the other looking like he has World Class potential.
What I want to know if why Bursak's team want this fight ?

I mean Blackwell is a good fighter, and a tricky enough opponent for those around European level.....but yet his record isn't that great and indicates a relative novice so beating him won't receive a lot of kudos, nor rewards.
Then comes price, I'm sure Blackwell can be got cheaper than a lot of the other British Middleweights, especially those with a tv deal.....but you have to think guys like Sergey Khomitsky, Istvan Szili and Vitaliy Kopylenko would come cheaper and present less risk.

Interestingly he's only ranked 18th in the EU rankings anyway, 5 places behind the lowest ranked fighter in the EU rankings that makes the EBU rankings (Istvan Szili).
