LOL, none of my friends would believe for a second that I'd end up spending so much time on the web. I was out 8 days a week.

The Bellflower Belter - Irish Jerry Quarry,

At 6' 0" - 193 lbs., Jerry was 'not' an imposing Heavyweight, but he did carry a dangerous left-hook
to go along with a 25-1-4 {14 KO's} record.

Still young at 22 years 8 months, the 'Skinny' was that Jerry tended to burn himself up early in
his bouts, and did not show good stamina.

The Quarry Team even brought in a Fitness Expert and Nutritionist to help Jerry prepare for this bout.

Quietly confident, the 'fight plan' was look to counter with right-hands, which Jerry had been working
on in the Gym for the past 4-Months. Instead of leading, Jerry would employ a move-back strategy,
enticing Thad to 'take-the-lead' in hopes that the San Francisco Heavyweight would leave himself open
for counter and lead right-hands to the chin.

To help Jerry prepare for this fight, he worked with 'Irish' Terry Lee a quick-moving Light-Heavyweight
for 'speed and quickness', and Los Angeles Heavyweight prospect Steve Carter who had a style much
like Thad Spencer.

Like Jerry suddenly developed his counterpunching style for Spencer... If you believe that then you dont know jack about Quarry. He was known primarily as a dangerous counter puncher, particularly when he fought off the ropes. He often inched back, drawing leads which he could counter up and down with his left hook. This was not new to his bout with Spencer.

How did neutralizing the left work out for Thad? Quarry didnt need some special secret tactic to beat him. He fought him the same way he always did and bounced dozens of left hooks off his chin and ribs. The first knockdown in the fourth was a perfect left hook. The bottom line is that Quarry was just an underrated fighter by some because he ran hot and cold. But even running hot and cold he was more consistent than Spencer and an all around better fighter.

Not that it would have mattered, but wasn't that a pretty quick call by the ref to stop the fight with only a few seconds left in the fight?

I've never seen what the scoring was through the 11th, but Quarry was obviously ahead.

Spencer was defenseless at this point, had been taking hard shots all night, was wobbled several times, and dropped twice. I doubt the ref knew or was thinking about the time left.

Attrocious scoring and if you think mauling a guy and hanging on him wearily is a good round it explains a lot about what you think you know about boxing.
