Huge Congrats Darren Barker
Huge Congrats Darren Barker
Tremendous heart and will to win. Changed up his style and it paid off against a very good champion.
His post-fight interview was all heart too. I'm sure Max sympathised after losing his own brother too.
Barker vs Lee anyone ?

Did you gents see it? And if so was it a fair decision?
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
It was a fair decision, though I thought the 116-111 card for Barker was too wide.
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
well deserved and hard earned win.
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
What happened to kellermans brother??
He wasn't murderd by butler was he??
Gary barker passed away sometime ago now.but it goes to show how it ruins people & how Darren is still struggling with it. Hopefully having his own family will sort out his misery.
And the new!

The most impressive part for me was recovering from that body shot. He looked on the brink after that landed.
Fantastic performance all round.
Fantastic performance all round.

Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
Brilliant to see him win that.
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
Must admit I'm over the moon for Barker at this result - especially as it clearly means so, so much to him.
Also thought it was great to see the likes of Murray and Macklin congratulating him on twitter - very classy touches.
Hopefully we'll see some nice match-ups in the wake of this win that recall the Benn/Eubank/Watson middleweight face-offs

I don't think I have ever seen such joy at a verdict. I was over the moon for them all. It obviously meant so, so much to them. Well done Darren.
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
Golovkin would make a good next opponent
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
It was a cracking fight and a cracking result. The KD in the 6th would have finished plenty of fighters better than Barker, and at 7 or 8 I thought it was over, but fair play to get up, recover and even fight back before the end of the round - it's not often you see a fighter punch the air after losing a 10-8 round, but it was entirely warranted.
Quick note to mention the class of both guys in the aftermath - both showed huge respect for each other, acknowledged the fight could have gone either way and added to a great night all round.
A big money, highly-winnable, domestic clash against Macklin or Lee would be a deserved next option.

I think Sturm is mandatory. Then I think we might see a Barker/Macklin/Murray situation should Barker beat Sturm.rm1 wrote:Golovkin would make a good next opponent

A big well done Darren
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
Last night He found Himself, well done.
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
I think he'd get destroyed by Golovkin to be honest. Not that there's any disgrace in that. Like you said though i think he'll be fighting the domestic opposition now.SNG wrote:I think Sturm is mandatory. Stayed up and watched it, well worth it. Brilliant show of courage.
Thought he was out of there in the 6th and the 12th.
Delighted for him.

Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
I did make my feelings clear in the RBR thread. Screamed at the top of my voice when the verdict was announced.
If I was his promoters I'd steer him clear of any punchers unless they are forced to fight them. Obviously he is going to have to fight Sturm and if I was Hearn I'd be working my nuts off to get that in the UK likewise with a Geale rematch that is also likely to be forced at some point. I'v mentioned I thought the Froch v Groves undercard was a possible place for these fights.
If he still has the belt after all that then the all British/Irish World title fights may well happen.

Obviously the fight everyone wants to see Barker in with is GGG. Does anybody else have the feeling that is never going to happen? I even remember Hearn saying as much in one of his I-Film interviews.

Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
I've just turned 40yrs old and that's the first time in a fight or in the gym I have seen anybody recover from a flush solar plexus shot within 10 seconds. The dude deserved the belt there and then for that!
Re: Huge Congrats Darren Barker
That was a fantastic performance by Barker. I'll admit I fancied Geale to win and thought he would outbox Barker down the stretch. Barker proved me wrong, I did question his heart mostly due to the amount of injuries he has suffered over the years I saw him as a bit of a tin man.
I watched it on the HBO version and I agreed with Steve Weisfeld's 115-112 card to Barker, I don't think there can be any doubt about the decision, even taking into account the knockdowns. This is boxing and I thought Barker outboxed him. Whenever he threw the jab he was in full control; I'm surprised he didn't throw it earlier with more authority.
