Who next for Darren Barker?
Who next for Darren Barker?
Plenty of options with varying levels of risk.
He'll be able to bring Sturm or Geale over for mandatory/rematch per contractual requirements.
He has three domestic clashes that offer varying levels of risk and attractiveness.
He has a rematch with Martinez, depending on when he returns and whether he could be convinced to come to London.
He has unification options with GGG or Quillin, although both would likely result in losses and would have to be stateside.
My choice (assuming contract issues can be overcome) would be a fight with Macklin before that clash loses appeal.

Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
Just stay away from GGG I would suggest. Any of the other fights ar egood.
I think Quillin should be the ultimate goal

Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
I think it will be Andy Lee next due to alignment of Pluto in Mars and Eddie in Booth.
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
Martin Murray hopefully.
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
martin murray i would go for but probably barker will pick the easiest opponent to hold on to the belt abit longer
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
the easiest opponent bein either lee or sturm in britain
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
I thought Sam Soliman was the IBF #1 contender.

Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
I read it has to be Sturm, regardless of who won. Lets hope Eddie gets it on home territory. Those Germans are not to be trusted. Impartial judges and referee Terry O'Connor are what's needed to get Darren through this tricky first defence.

Just read the judge who had the fight even after 11 rounds, scored the final round to Barker. I can see a protest from Geales team on that one.

Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
Eddie has said it may well be Sturm in December.
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
solid fight, sturm.
still a tricky opponent and barker will have to be clever to open up that guard.
I wonder if barker will want a revenge match with Martinez who may be on the slide?
can't see the gain in macklin coming off an early KO loss to golovkin. murray, who extended Martinez? lee - is he still in the picture, on world or domestic/euro scenes? reckon paul smith could be good, if he could get down to middle.
it'll be sturm and then geale, again.

Hi gents,
hasn't he got to face Sam Soliman first with Felix Sturm as a possible second mandatory?

And the other one only giving Geale 3 rounds. I can see a rematch at some stage in the future.Old bones Ian wrote:Just read the judge who had the fight even after 11 rounds, scored the final round to Barker. I can see a protest from Geales team on that one.
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
soliman's out because after decisioning sturm he tested positive for some illegal substance.
sturm's the next challenger, it's believed.
anyway we lost a world champ and gained one, in one night.
reckon HBO puts up money for a geale rematch, sometime next year. hope that rules out andy lee.
don't think the british fights will happen, despite talk.

I was under the impression that the IBF said that the result stood, but the German board said it was a no contest and I know which one I'd trust.Autobarn wrote:soliman's out because after decisioning sturm he tested positive for some illegal substance.

Lee would be no walk in the park for Barker.Autobarn wrote:soliman's out because after decisioning sturm he tested positive for some illegal substance.

Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
it'd probably be a tasty matchup for the promoters and lee may present some difficulties but I don't see him as a notable enough opponent, especially not after barker winning such a terrific, all action battle that HBO may want to see a sequel to...

I figure there's a real good chance we'll see Geale vs Barker II.Autobarn wrote:it'd probably be a tasty matchup for the promoters and lee may present some difficulties but I don't see him as a notable enough opponent, especially not after barker winning such a terrific, all action battle that HBO may want to see a sequel to...
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
I hope so, that each fighter has a worthwhile payday in a fight that fans will want to see. HBO seem to be making tougher matchups and I can't see them passing up a sequel.
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
I'd like to see barker face who ever is the most lucrative for him.theres no easy fights for him!!
Lee hasn't done anything to suggest a world title fight.
Macklin has just been crushed so no chance there.
Murray is a fantastic fighter & a real threat but I don't think he'd bring much to the table in terms of readies.
I want barker to cash in, maybe Chavez in Vegas would be a big occasion

Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
really hope its murray ,but doubt they will go for him think hes to strong for barker an would maybe stop him
Re: Who next for Darren Barker?
I would like to see Macklin, mainly because it was Macklin vs Barker that was the most mooted in Britain. That fight has been called for, for the last 6+ years.

This is a good post his paid his dues he should capitalise his earnings.hurlock wrote:I'd like to see barker face who ever is the most lucrative for him.theres no easy fights for him!!
