Roberto Duran was 47 years old when he was given a WBA Middleweight Title shot against a prime William Joppy. Everyone must have known that this wasn't anything like the Foreman/Moorer scenario and that Duran had no chance.
My question then is this: Does anyone know the specifics surrounding the fight? And more importantly, why was it allowed to happen?

Thanks for the infoDecagon wrote:Duran was actually ranked in the top 10 by Ring magazine through much of the 1990s at 168 and 160. Duran simply kept fighting and kept winning. Duran owed a lot of money in back taxes, and he gave up nearly all of his $240,000 purse (Joppy made $250,000). Forgive me if my recollection of the numbers is off.
