Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Sum Names to consider Shakur Stevenson, Danny Gonzalez, Marc Castro, Gabe Flores , Suray Mahmutovic, Otha Jones. If you guys know sum others names to consider based on National Titles won let me know
Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
If I had to pick right now it would probably be Shakur Stevenson, he is in top form right now and has won at least 2 National Titles and has won outstanding boxer at a Major Tournament. Still got at least one more National Tournament , National P.a.l

Wow, Scallum, you have a lot of time on your hands - are you new to the game ?
Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Wish I had more time on my hands , not nearly enough hours in day to get what I need to get done. Not really new to the gamevidaboxing wrote:Wow, Scallum, you have a lot of time on your hands - are you new to the game ?
Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Other Names to consider are Adrian Benton, Deven Haney, Sergio Flores, Ruben Villa, Isidro Ochoa. I will research and see which kid has won the most National Titles and who has won Most Outstanding Awards at the Major Tournaments. The 6 major Tournaments are Jr Worlds, Silver Gloves, Jr Olympics, Jr Golden Gloves Ringside, and National P.a.l.I'm not sure but don't think any one has won every tournament but sum have won 2 or 3 so far.
Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Looks like Ray Ray Robinson and Malik Nelson have also won Multiple National Titles in 2013 also

Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Are you sure your not new to the game, you stated before that this would be the first year that the National PAL tournament would be held in Oxnard, California (so, it makes me believe that you are new to the game.)
The National PAL has been held in Oxnard several times throughout the years - they actually do the best job of hosting this tournament, its very well organized and administered.
As Amateur Boxer of the year, I would have to nominate either Shakur Stevenson or Danny Gonzalez because they have won most, if not all of the tournaments that they have entered this year, and they fight at competitive weights - no walk overs for them. They have been tested time after time against the best that the nation has to offer, and they have prevailed each and every time.
So, is Suray your son or is he your fighter - are you his coach ? He's a decent fighter, however, he does need to work on his balance, but that will come once he stops growing.

Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Been involved in boxing since 1986 but only as trainer since 2000.I think Shakur is the only boxer who has been undefeated in all tournaments. Shakur and Suray I believe are the only 2 to have won 3 National Titles this year. Really hard to win multiple Nationals Championships in one year. Shakur definite is the Leader for Amatuer boxer of year. Still have one more National Title and one International Title to settle things up.vidaboxing wrote:Are you sure your not new ttrainer since stated before that this would be the first year that the National PAL tournament would be held in Oxnard, California (so, it makes me believe that you are new to the game.)

Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
From what boxing club in 1986 - up north in Cali right ? A lot of good boxers came out of Northern California in the mid 80s (Tony Lopez, Loreto Garza, and Willie Jordan...........I'm sure a couple more fellows but I can't remember them now..............they all did not have long boxing careers but they were good enough to make decent money and win some title belts.)
There's a lot of good talent up in northern Cal that's for sure, however, not enough good coaches to really teach the sport of boxing to the kids to keep them motivated, which is a real shame. It's not only Northern California, but all over the country................the sweet science is dying with the old trainers.
So, Scallum where is your gym located and who do you train ? Do you have any pro fighters, since you have been a coach since the year 2000?

Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
I put all my focus in one fighter and that is Suray, now I got him on Team Usa I have taken on another very young kid. I help out with other kids with 415 boxing club at times when thier coach is overwhelmed. The young Kid I train now is only 7 and if he continues to works hard he will be winning National Titles Galore , starting next year when he turns 8. We located in Ssf but with Suray gone for weeks at a Time me and the younger kid hit up different gyms across the bay.vidaboxing wrote:From what boxing club in 1986 - up north in Cali right ? Yea, I was just referring to the boxers from the 80s, since you stated that you have been in the game since 1986 - do you remember these guys when they were coming up ? You still have not stated what club you were attached too back in the day.
So, your Suray's coach, I thought the dude from 415 Boxing was his coach - I guess that's not the case - well good luck to you Scallum it appears that you have a lot invested in Suray, time will tell..............the hard work is only beginning..............its a long road to the big time.

Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
I fired myself as his coach, im his father. Fired myself In 2011 , because he was approaching teen years and Father/ son thing in boxing can be difficult. I still do intense work on defense , and other things but Rob Fernandez is his main coach now. With my new kid , I'm his main coach won't ever have to worry about the father/ son thingy.vidaboxing wrote:Yea, I was just referring to the boxers from the 80s, since you stated that you have been in the game since 1986 - do you remember these guys when they were coming up ? Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Danny Gonzalez has outside shot at winning boxer of year, the kid is all that and sum. I thought he won at Jr Golden Gloves in a good fight but other kid got decision. I heard Danny had a 60 fight win streak going at the time. Its gonna be hard for anyone to overcome Shakur Stevenson.
Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Erick Murgia has won 2 National Titles this year at 165, if he can win Medal in Worlds he has Shot. I believe Javier Estrada has also won 2 at Least 2 National Titles at 147
Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Actually Javier Estrada may have Won 3 National Titles at 147 , I know he has won 2 for sure
Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Done sum digging, Javier Estrada ,Shakur Stevenson and Suray Mahmutovic all have won 3 of the Major National Titles so far in 2013. Its harder for Stevenson and Estrada to win National titles at lower weights as there is usually more fighters in lower weights. Very good job these kid to have claimed 3 . Mahmutovic and Stevenson have also each won Most Outstanding Boxer Awards at The Major Tournaments. Will research more to see if any more boxers have won 3 National Titles this year

I'M GOING TO COME OUT AND SAY IT - I'M SURE OTHERS FEEL THE SAME WAY - SCALLUM YOUR TOO MUCH !!!! YOUR INDIRECTLY BOASTING ABOUT YOUR KID - IF YOUR A PROUD PAPA MAN - JUST COME OUT AND SAY IT STRAIGHT - DON'T REFLECT ON OTHER BOXERS SUCCESS TO HYPE UP YOUR OWN KID - THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING PROUD - YOU DON'T HAVE TO BLAST OTHER BOXERS VICTORIES AND THEN DISCREETLY MENTION YOUR KID'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS. I THINK YOU CANDIDLY HYPE UP THE OTHER BOXERS, BUT YOUR MAIN and TRUE AGENDA ON THIS FORUM IS TO TALK ABOUT YOUR KID.
I CAN SEE WHY THE 415 DUDE IS TRAINING YOUR KID - YOU NEED TO MUCH ATTENTION - THAT'S HOW I SEE IT - YOU DON'T HAVE TO AGREE - BUT YOU DO HAVE TO ADMIT YOUR A BIT MANIACAL OVER THIS WHOLE TEAM USA AND YOUR KID.
ACTUALLY, I THINK YOU ARE THE 415 DUDE - YOU SOUND JUST LIKE HIM WHEN HE USE TO POST ON THIS FORUM AS 415 BOXING.

Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
One of the best kids is Ruben Villa who won Jr Olympics back to back but he didn't do a couple of the Majors this year and was Robbed big time at Silvers this year. Heard Ruben went like 7 years without losing in very tough California

Re: Amatuer Boxer of the Year, Jr boxers and below
Don't care what you or anyone thinks. Who have you coached? What are your credits? Name sum of your fighters. Oh I think I know who you are now lol, disgruntled opponent we beat lol . Dude just step your fighters game up cause we gonna hard for ours. What matters is what is being accomplished right now, nobody is guaranteed to be last man standing or guaranteed to even be in the game this time next year. Just focus on getting your fighter better, if you don't like what I post then don't read it, very simple.vidaboxing wrote:...........exactly my point, nice guy, YOUR TRUE COLORS CAME OUT !!!!
