Carl Froch - A Stepping Up Plan Against Who?

Post by The Hawk »

Carl Froch is now in the WBC 8 ranking, 16 fights now, 28 years old and wanting to make some big noises. He had a good fight with Henry Porras in American and some nice wins on his why up.

Who would you like to see him fight in his next few contests to really press for a geniune World title fight and get more people talking.

I like to see him fight Vitali Tsypko, to claim the European title. Tsypko is 29, also had 16 fights and is also unbeaten, dispite a close fight with Brian Magee.

Then all being well, I'd like to see him fight the likes of Danny Green, or Anthony Mundine both have had good careers but have came 2nd best to 2 of the main belt holders. Mundine himself, a former world champion and had a good fight against Mikkel Kessler.

I'd like to see Carl push himself into a fight with one of the elite before he hits 30 years old. Any ideas?

otis grant wud be a perfect opponent for froch - he is WBC #1 and very beatable. By all accounts he has been looking his age in some of his recent bouts. But I suppose he wont want to risk his ranking by fighting froch unless its an eliminator so tsypko is the way to go. hey that rhymes! :TU:

Nice ideas Hawk but I guess Tsypko is also looking for a title shot and wouldn't want to fight Froch for that reason and the effect of a loss on career as opposed to potential loss in world title challenge.

(maybe vice versa too)

Thats very true as well, Tsypko would have his own plans being the European Champion and more highly ranked in the WBC.

Anyone know how highly ranked Froch is for the European title, that could force a fight between these two?

The fight between Jackson Chanet and Vitali Tsypko on the 18th are a WBA eliminator, so the winner of that fight will not take any chances.

Ok, seems as though Tsypko is moving along well with entering an eliminator, I cannot see the winner risking against anyone unless they have to in a final eliminator as you said.

I think it might be interesting to see him in with Robin Reid in order to compare himself to the Divisions' top dog Jeff Lacy.
But you already mentioned a perfect opponent and thats Brian Magee who most thought got robbed against the Ukranian. Its one Carl should win but the question is can he look impressive against a decent fighter who knows he's in the last chance saloon.
Otis Grant is a great shout also but I would leave it for one or two fights before putting him in with the power punching Danny Green and the skilled Anthony Mundine.
Ultimately he has to look at getting in with Markus Beyer who looks there for the taking by a young fresh fighter. Beyer has fought everyone except Lacy, Kessler, and Calzaghe probably due to him knowing that he would get beaten. In that sense he is very shrewd champion. He has built his career on beating the likes of Omar Sheika, Eric Lucas, Glenn Catley etc who are tough but just below top class. The only real risk he took was against Danny Green and in both fights he was very lucky to escape with the belt (in the first one he was saved by a miracle.)
The last fight against Barney and the next one in December against another dud will teach 'The Cobra' nothing and I hope Hennesy doesn't take Froch down the Eatman route of keeping him in the U.K. to fight 'opponents' so that when he does get his big fight ,after waiting in line for years , he looks troubeld by the fact the other guy is the favourite.
Howard is an excellent fighter but couldn't get out of his shell against a tame and safety first Hopkins who looked there for the taking. :TU:

Tsypko is a coward. He already had a shot to fight Lacy again for the IBF title and ducked and dodged out of the fight. Lacy called HIM out after he won the belt and Tsypko wanted no part of it.

Tspyko is overrated and magee clearly beat him but the judges were a disgrace.

Yes Magee was very hard done against in that fight. Had it been outside Germany, Magee would of won I reckon.

Froch was wanting to step in to fight Magee in Belfast when the Calzaghe fight fell apart.

It was a shocking gift o tsypko that night and did you see him slump down in his corner after the final bell knowing he got well and truly beaten, but hey.

Maggee vs froch would be a good fight i think and a real test of were froch is at right now as maggee is still a hell of a fighter.

Maggee would be good because he is a respected fighter who will test froch and put him right up there for a european shot which I think is the logical next step whoever holds it.

I think the Barny fight was a very good one as he was against a difficult opponent who can spoil and out weighed him, also barny has a lot of championship expereance and is well respected by the EBU.

Groenewald, Sheika, Magee - title shot.

That would be my programme.

I would suggest a EBU title shot befor that in order to give him credability and possibly a big one away from home too for expereance sake

If Tsypko beats Chanet he will most likely vacant his EBU belt. And if Froch does a good job on Groenwald he could move some spots in the ratings and maybe fight for the vacant belt
1: Sanavia
2: Markussen (Wont take the fight, waiting for WBO mandatory shot)
3: Haussler
4: Reid
5: Veit
6: Magee
7: Froch

The critical point is Haussler since Sauerland mostly will put the money behind him. I also think Sanavia will accept the co-challenger status.

Froch Maggee or Reid would be a plausable eliminator and the winner could take Sanavia or Haussler

On the subject of Lacy-Tsypko didn't they fight and it ended in a no contest? Are you referring to Lacy calling him out for a rematch? As for Froch i agree he needs to go out there looking for the challenges rather than sitting at home like Eastman did waiting for a shot at something big. The Porras fight was a move in the right direction.

There are some names out there who are good stepping stones and beatable for Froch like Grant who is close to being past it but holds a good ranking, Haussler who is limited but wins hometwon decisions so Froch would have to stop him, Sanavia which would be a good fight for Froch or Sheika.

Just a thought what about a match up with dodson, not sure how much it would do for his ranking but would certainly be a good learning fight and the EBU would notice it happening
