Duce is correct in that London slowly backed up of his own accord into the corner. With London in the corner Ali came in and launched that flurry.

It looked impressive as hell and I am able to see one long overhand right that clearly landed high on London's head or side of the head. Maybe that is the one that did it. It was one of the final punches.

I'm just asking an honest question as on the old film I saw I just can't see how many punches landed. Some clearly were "all flash but no cash".

It is an honest question about that flurry that put London down. The film I've looked at is quite grainy and I can't tell much. I do think quite a few of the punches were flashy but harmless.

In looking at those photos, I'm pretty confident they must be earlier in the fight and not the final flurry.

Nobody was secretly keeping London out of the ring to protect his standing. They didnt need to. The British promoters made it clear they wanted Ali to fight in the UK again and the only heavyweight who would draw there against him after Coopers loss was London. Essentially if Ali was going to fight a Brit in Britain London was a lock. Initially Ali refused to fight London on the grounds that he did not think London would draw anywhere else outside of Britain (which would hurt his take of the ancillary rights). The fact that they let London fight Spencer and Johnson before they ever had Ali's signature proves they werent trying to hide him away and protect him. In fact they were eager to match him with those international fighters in order to build up his appeal. It worked. As Ive stated before his match with Johnson was televised nationally and written up very favorably. London had done a lot to redeem his image with that one fight. After the positive press and recognition that London got Ali finally agreed to the match in late June or early July. It was only monday morning quarterbacking that said it was a bad match afterwards because London didnt show well. But big deal. He was one of Ali's lower rung contenders. Like I said before, plenty of fighters have taken a gimme. Ali took less than most. So quit coming on here with your fake quotes and conspiracy theories based on absolute nonsense.

I cant speak to why he turned down fights with Jones and Machen (if indeed he did) but there was bad blood between London and Chuvalo from 1961 when Chuvalo walked out on a fight with London at the last minute. London was pissed off and wanted to reschedule for as soon as possible but Chuvalo refused. London felt Chuvalo was running from him and refused to ever let him make a dime on him.
