Correction to Boxers's Record

Post by Lyar »

Leanna Boodram, Kessey Lessey and Avalon Oliverie are listed as professional boxers when they are in fact amateurs.

The 'pro' fight that is listed for Leanna Boodram (opponent unknow) took place for the annual Caribbean Amateur Boxing Association (CABA) Championships, in the Bahamas. In fact Boodram never fought for that championship as her opponent was a no show and she won by default. That why her opponent is unknow.

Please see links to local paper Trinidad and Tobago's Newsday which will provide you with information in regard to the above boxers amateur status.

AFAIK, the boxers U mentioned were all on the under card of the Iva Weston - Krystal Lessey headliner on Eric Sealy’s
farewell all-female card at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex Friday night 21, September-2003 in Wildey, Barbados.
It was reported by Sherrylyn Clarke in the Barbados Daily Nation Sunday 21, September-2003.
There was no mention of amateur bouts.

Trinidad Women's Boxing Record

Post by Lyar »

I do remember Boodram and Lessey going to Barbados to fight on the card. But they left Trinidad as amateur boxers. I cannot say what happen when they actual arrive in Barbados.

Boodram is an amateur boxer as she recently fought for the 2005 CABA games in the US Virgin Islands. Lessey has not fought in a while. I am sure if she is still involed in amateur boxing as I have not seen her in a while.

Lessey was also 16 years at the time of the fight in Barbados and her fights in Trinidad. Trinidad and Tobago laws state that no fighter under the age of 17 shall be allowed to fight a professional fight. Leeanna was also 15 years of age at the time of the fight in Barbados.

I also noticed that Jamila Jones is also on your data base when she is in fact an amateur. She also represented Trinidad and Tobago in the 2005 CABA games

See link to articles in the local newspaper Trinidad Express regarding these amateur boxers background.

Have U checked with the Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago Commissions about these boxers status?
Maybe U could get them to send us “official results” at BoxRec’s toll free fax number (866) 297-7761
to eliminate future problems.

Trinidad Womens Records

Post by Lyar »

I have not checked with the Barbados commission. Nor am I interested too. Why don't you? I would think that Boxrec would be interested in providing accurate info. As I said I don't know what went on in Barbados. But I do know they left Trinidad as amateurs, and for all I know they turned pro in Barbados and on returing to Trinidad went back to amateur status??

There is no need for me to check with the Trinidad commission about the boxers status as I live in Trinidad and I have seen these ladies fight as amateurs, hence I know their status.

Question: Why do u seem so unsure about these girls records even though I have provided current links to the local newspapers that provide information that they are in fact amateurs?? You are certain of what Sherrylyn Clarke of the Barbados Daily Nation has printed. A Barbadian who has no idea of their fight history but who may have been provided / mislead with inaccurate information.

Why are u uncertainity to what has been provided? Links to the Trinidad newspaper, which state they are in fact amateurs have been provided. Trinidad is where they live, so the local newspaper would know their status.

The link below takes you to the Trinidad Express which clearly states:

19 Leave for Amateur Championships.

It list Boodram and Jones (who was not on the Barbados card) as been on the T & T National Amateur Women Boxing Team.

http://www.trinidadexpress.com/index.pl ... d=83552853

How can Boodram fight pro in Barbados in 2003 then be choosen on the T & T amateur team for 2005?

But hey if you are still so certain that these so call 'pros' are in fact 'pros' please update their records as they are incomplete. as these girls have more 'pro' fights than that.

Dear Lyar,
This would not be the first time an amateur turned pro & then went back to amateur.
Nor is it the first time news sites gave conflicting reports.

If BoxRec was getting cooperation from the Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago Commissions,
we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Yet U are not interested in making a LOCAL CALL with the Trinidad & Tobago Commission
to get the change YOU want and the Commissions aren’t willing to fax reports to a FREE
toll number on a FREE information site. If U want change; you must have official proof;

When the local boxing communities starts pressuring their commissions to send BoxRec
official results, is when we will stop having these problems. :TU:

One hand washes another.

Toll-free number is only toll-free for U.S./Canadian callers. International charges applies to anybody from other nations. A token point, but kinda needless to repeat "toll-free" when it is not for most.
