Salvador Sanchez vs Erik Morales

Post by ELA »

Sanchez, the smooth boxer vs Morales, the Puncher.

My pick is Sanchez by decision.

Awesome fight, I see a split decision or unanimous for Sanchez. It'd be a competitive fight but as i've said before, Sanchez was more than great. He was an awesome counter puncher and he could take any punch Morales would throw. Morales would trouble him in the same way because Morales can take any punch by Sanchez, but Sanchez might have even gotten a TKO. Morales still has enough heart to finish the fight. Morales would still give a competitive fight. I don't know though, Morales might have a chance. I'd say the Sanchez wins 70% of the time. Still 30% is respectable against Sanchez. And Morales has the ability to get that win if he tries his hardest and Sanchez is on an off night. But Sanchez wins a split decision or unanimous in a very competitive war.

I see Morales wanting to just tough it out and see if he can punish Sanchez and taking anything dished out to him in return. (remind you of anything?) and thus losing a decision to a smarter even if not tougher or better competitor.

It's funny how when faced with someone his equal he doesnt get smarter he just seems to want to enjoy the fight. Which is why we all respect him so damn much.

It's funny because these two are some of my favorite's. It's also funny that Morales does do that. When he fights smart he outclasses opponents almost effortlessly. Similar sometimes to even Sanchez. If Morales always fought smart he'd be undefeated and he'd be a more hittable version of Sanchez. But it's also a smart but crude tactic Barrera uses to anger Morales. (Watch the Spanish stations when they have either one as a guest to see what I mean.) I don't think Sanchez would do that. Sanchez was a more humble and noble fighter than Barrera. So maybe Morales would use his brains on this one. If he did i'd still say Sanchez wins but this time Morales has a 40% chance of winning maybe more. Because both were smart fighters but sometimes Morales wants to show his bravado which ultimately makes the fight much closer. (I think he'd have totally outclassed Pac-Man if it wasn't for his bravado not letting him turn into a complete boxer. He always seems to be a boxer brawler. But don't we love that about him?)

Once again I`d side with the naturally bigger man and real featherweight.

Eric Morales is just demonstrating his greatness by moving up and out of his natural weight class and beating the good fighters there.

But he has not and could not have beaten the real great featherweight fighters, his natural was super-bantam.

Sanchez is the best fighter i've ever seen. I know in most cases he'd beat Morales but there's still always a chance. And I believe Morales is one of the best of this era... so in my opinion he'd be competitive. Still like I said earlier Sanchez wins a decision. I'm just saying it'd be closer if Morales fought smart rather than with his heart. (That rhymes and sounds stupid but most people should understand what I meant.)

I'll make it a unanimous decision and go with the superior boxer, Sanchez.
Morales would get caught repeatedly trying to work inside a rough up Sanchez. Never felt that EM was at his best at featherweight. Wasn't a power puncher at 126 and I don't see him outboxing SS.
