the expenses bill will get paid. . . if!!

Post by rhino222 »

Well, controversial point. We are all human beings. I work in the medical field, I get involved in procurememt, if I am offered two products at a similar price, both of equivalent quality, one of the companies hardly communicates with me and the other flies me to germany to their factory, entertains and feeds me for a week in a plush hotel, then flies and taxis me home.....then which product will I choose? Its not rocket science!

On the other hand, all boxing board officials are paid by the promoter, expenses, room service, et al. Some huge events mean swanky hotels, fine wines, meals out etc. If the fight is close, who are they going to score the fight for? Again its not rocket science.

Is there a way round this? From where I am sat the officials have a conflict of interest. Should the boxing boards of each country take control. Take 'x' % from each bill and hold it in an officials account. They then issue this to each promoter dependent on the bill and the area. The board would negotiate prices and packages with selected hotels etc, thus taking away human nature being influenced by generosity.

The only sure fire way of eliminating dodgy decisions is to have the two boxers fight til one of them can not make it up at the count of 10.

That is never gonna happen, so we are stuck with the dodgy decisions every now and again.

Scoring a fight is subjective and people appreciate different kind of work in the ring.

It`s not just boxing. it happens in diving, ice skating, ski jumping, gymnastics etc.

If a well known gymnast performs, they get the benfit of their name calculated into the equation. I`m sure of it. Boxing is no worse than the other sports. It`s all opinion.

I thought Geale maybe edged out Barker, but others saw it differently. That`s the way it goes.

Board inspectors are not paid by the promotor so please get your facts right when you say all board officials are paid by the promotor coz that is completely incorrect and casts questions of integrity against board inspectors if it is as you say that you are involved in procurement and are accepting hospitality in Germany etc you are hardly in a position to question the integrity of others are you ?

Relating to my job I said 'if'. So you get your facts right. As far as my thread is concerned, I was not meaning inspectors as they do not score the fight. Were you aware of that? I could always edit the initial thread so you can sleep at night, would you like me to?

rhino, I understand the point you are making but you should not have used the phrase 'all boxing board officials are paid by the promoter,'

Maybe you could have said something like 'all scoring officials'

In fairness you fully understood what he meant so theres no point either of you getting your knickers in a twist about the inspectors roles , inspectors dont influence the results of fights so are irrelivant in the topic in my opinion .

The fact that I understood it does not mean everyone did (particularly those who do 'passive reading' or read things out of context). I'm pretty sure Spudder did not understand it the same as me.

The phrase was incorrect and people need to be careful when making statements of that nature because they are potentially defamatory. Rhino's intention appears to be innocent but the wording needs to be accurate in order to prevent any misunderstanding.

With most promoters getting money from them is like getting blood from a stone, hardly a gravy train. Most refs don't even get a changing room in the UK and I've never seen one get a meal or packed lunch either!
