Safo
Safo is a good trainer. Prentice Brewer is my style of boxer. He has been a good boxer for a while. Safo had a lot of talented kids. The outside world destroys young talent. Stay in the gym, and Safo will see to it that you do something.

Safo's Gym
I said "had" because in this sport you never know what happens to some of the best. Like I said, I haven't heard from Safo in a while. I don't know who got jobs or what. I see you didn't name a few guys I knew. No disrespect, just trying to get in touch with Safo.

Safo
What was that? How are things with Yondell? Is there a number to the gym, or are you gonna keep Safo's number a secret? Give it to me on my personal message, or e mail me.
Galena Park Boxing Academy, Galena Park, TX. Trainer: Kenny Weldon
More national amateur champs than anyone else over the past 25 years. Couple of Olympians from scratch too. At least thats what the sign out front says. It lists the champs too, there is like 25+. Of course I'm biased because I work out there when I go home, but the numbers don't lie. They Won the Houston regional golden gloves team trophy just about every year I can remember too, but I'm not all that old.

That would make them the best gym in Houston. List some of the boxers that became national champions. The best thing out of Texas in the past four years would be Juan McPhearson. And a few others. There is a kid from Texas about 120 or so, 15-16 with a tremendous knock-out record. I think his name is Robert Marroquin. Greg Corbin is an open class heavyweight, and Sergio Perales is about 119 open. Any of these guys on that list in your gym? Not trying to be funny, I try to keep track of the champions. Some go pro, some wait for the Olympics. Let me know if you got any info.

Juan is pro now. He trains in the DC area. I seen him in a local gym a week ago. Didn't get a chance to talk to him.

Maybe I didn't see Juan? I don't want to get involved in anything that is not my business.
Re: amateur coach
His name is Roberto Marroquin. Very good boxer. He beat one of my guys at the State Silver Gloves. I had seen him before at the Texas Games a few years before that and was very impressed.boxinghead wrote:That would make them the best gym in Houston. Not to impressed with the others.
Ohio has a lot of good quality amateur boxing gyms. Teen America and Kronk in Cleveland has produced Davis, Nelson, Kenny Porter trains his sons Shawn and Kenny Porter Jr as well as a few other pretty good amateurs in Akron, Good Shephard Boxing Gym in Akron always has a lot of crafty fighters, Cincy has produced Raushee Warren, Ron Siler, Tim Austin. Ray Vargas trained his sons Devin and Dallas out of Toledo. Anthony Hanshaw nearly made the olympics out of Mansfield.

TOP TRAINER George Bowers from New-ham was a proud man at Buckingham Palace last week where he received his MBE from the Queen for services to amateur boxing.
It was the highlight of more than 50 years in amateur boxing for the 70-year-old coach, originally from Canning Town, who guided more than 150 youngsters to national boxing titles during an outstanding career
Got to be one of the best out there!!?
