Meldrick Taylor v. Matthysse.

Post by Rover »

I've seen some Meldrick threads lately. How does this one go?

Taylor probably takes it, but I doubt he smokes Matthysse.

Matthysse by KO.
Taylor has many advantages over Matthysse, most notably speed and superior movement.
But Taylor was a boxer who liked to slug. He didn't have great power.
Once he made it a brawl with the Argentine, it would be all over.
Matthysse by KO in 7.

In my Mathysse overestimate. It would be interesting what he could to oppose speed and agility Meldrick.

But my point is that Taylor didn't use that agility. He liked to slug. A boxer with a puncher's mindset.
If he had used his boxing skills against Chavez, he would have walked away with a convincing decision. But he chose to slug with a slugger and paid the price in the 12th.
Punch for punch, Matthysse hits harder than Chavez, so what do you think would happen when Taylor stood his ground and tried to swap punches with Matthysse? Tiiiiiiiiiimber Meldrick Taylor.
But I too feel that the Argentine might be overrated. We'll find out more when he takes on Garcia on Sept. 14. Who's your pick in that fight?

I'd take Mathysse. He has more powerful punches. But Garcia certainly can surprise.I think there are knockdowns on both sides

Decision or KO? A lot of fans believe Matthysse has a rock for a chin. We'll see.
Oddsmakers have set the overs/unders line on the fight at 8 1/2 rounds so a long battle is predicted despite "monster" Matthysse's potent punch.

I might change my mind on this depending on the 14th.

Probably KO. Yes, everyone is interested in how strong jaw Mathysse.

Why do you think that Mathysse be able to withstand punches Meldrick?Maybe he will not be able to not take his shot.

Because of his chin. Taylor wasn't a big puncher.

Never though any elite fighter had much too worry about when it came to Taylor's punching power.
He overwhelmed lesser boxers with speed and punch volume but the top guys were seldom bothered by Meldrick's so-called power.
