always remember hia interview with spencer fearon after the khan fight where he said he would have to go back to shop lifting ....always seemed like a decent lad ....and had the heart of a lion

he has got jamie moore coming to his house this friday to do a peice to be shown on ringside in next few weeks. Could be good, has been sectioned twice since retiring, and son is doing very well in amateur game!

Do any of the older guys remember Tony Collins (late 80s/early 90s light middleweight)? He was part Romany, his following were always a bit wild. Some of his older relatives were pros too, I think.

if londonirish is martin power i just want say that i was on a NABC training camp as his coach in about 1991 at newcastle under lyme university , all the young boxers were good but martin was by far the best he boxed with such smothness not like a 13 year old . he had the same last name as my then mrs who came from traveller stock to so he always stuck out to me .
at the time i was about 22 and fighting myself but i was asked by ian irwin to help out with the training and martin was a really nice lad as well as a great boxer.

fornicate!!! sectioned??? that's sad. He seemed the sort that was never gona settle into retirement easily. Hope its not related to any problems from boxing. my mate sent me a link of a fight he did with the ebf in 2009 and I thought he did quite well. Assumed he was plodding along unlicenced.

i remember going on the piss with one of the trainers while at the univeristy and ened up a party till about 3 am and having to do the coaching with the worst hangover ever stinking of beer

My opinion is that Henry Wharton is the best fighter of travelling stock to date. He was also a shining example of how a fighter from any community should carry himself.

Great words Macho. That is exactly how he conducts himself in everyday life as well. Even drunk, would never claim he should have won this or that, just says he was fortunate to fight great fighters for the belt.
