Fact is, even if they'd been the same weight, this was a mismatch....But for only his third fight, you have to be realistic and know the deck is gonna be loaded - I've no problem with that.
I wouldn't have mentioned it if the other guy had been of the same ability and at the same weight - but this was bordering on the ridiculous.
Like Khan really needs such heavily loaded odds? I hope for his sake he doesn't...
Maybe when SN see this thread they'll bear it in mind when they dig up his next opponent for December ( like hell they will! hahah

When some people criticise prospects for being badly matched I’m generally one of the first to defend them and point out that all top prospects (especially Olympians) are the beneficiaries of careful matchmaking in the first 15/20 fights of their career.
However putting this clearly much smaller opponent in with Khan was simply bullying and shouldn’t have been allowed. The difference in ability was one thing but the size differential made this a disgraceful mismatch in my book, I bet even Khan was a bit embarrassed.

1. gethin shouldnt have been fighting Khan there are plenty of journeymen at lightweight or light welter if thats where he is campaining, to take him on.
2. Gethin knew he was gonna get hurt and hardly threw a punch back
3. this teaches Khan nothing.
4. I dont think he has the power to be a world champ i state this now. Maybe he will develop a little bit but on present performance those who say Khan can punch but mitchell cant hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
5. the best gauge I feel is often not us as boxing anoraks as good old Frank Maloney woudl call us, but that of the general public.
My old man phoned me up as soon as the fight finished, saying Im never watching him again. What load of bollox that fight was. (of course he will at some point I guess but not for some time, way to go hey, he is losing fans already.
I tried to explain that he is only in his thrid fight but my old man was not having it at all. Unrealistic expectation maybe so, but with this much hype then the public expect half competive match ups, at least get someone in the same size and who will give it a go.
He also complained that he smells a fix as the fight was stopped to early. At which point I did say come on, you dont need to fix those fights, they are fixed already by the physical and talent disparities and that his is boxing not the gladatorial games and the stoppage was just right.
My Dad a bit pissed asked me to use simple language.

Your dad is right J, mine thought the same thing.
Read the Bruno bio last week, and Frank says how disapointed and embarassed he was with the level of the guys they matched him with, right through his career almost - it was tomatoe cans all the way, then as soon as he was in with a live one, it was lights out.
