Luke Sharp vs Xavier Lucas

Post by Sweet P »

Luke Sharp has stepped in on 2 days notice to fight Xavier Lucas for the vacant WA Light heavyweight title.
Andrew Green had to pull out after he reagrevated his shoulder injurey in a final light sparring session on Monday.

Sharp is moving up 2 weights to take the fight. It should be a cracking fight.

Real pity for Andy. I reckon this would have been a great win that put him back on track.
Luke will give Xavier all he can handle regardless of moving up a couple of weight div. Should be a cracker.

In the no. I completely disagree, as I'm sure Sharpy would.
Van Diemen was lucky to Eek out a draw against him, and if you think that about Lucas, then by inference, you are saying that about his opponents too.
I think Lucas won the fight, and ill have a look at the Video once available to get "another" perspective. Lucas is a good boxer, and had quite a good amateur career while in SA. He gets a bad rap because he switched to MMA. I think that fact should be left out of it when it comes to scoring the fight, as should the involvement of the respective camps in the promotion. I cant say that this was the case, but i definitely saw it different to the judges.
To say he has no boxing skills is pretty disrespectful both before and after that last fight.

Gday Padddy
Its interesting your comments. I agree Xavier is a decent boxer. And mma fighter.
Having said that it dosnt influence my score at all whether he fights mma or not. There were 2-3 close rounds in the fight last night. Which showed in how close the 3 Judges scores were.
Fights like last night really make for interesting debate. I sat near you and judged 77-76 Luke. Another official sat doing trial cards next to me and had it 77-75 for Luke. Yet you had it for Xavier. Im not saying your score is wrong and ours are right but its just the way really close fights go. :TU:

Just read an interesting article on fight news in regards to the Sharp v Lucas bout. Grady Stewart must have spoken to every person in the arena to ascertain how they thought the result should have gone !! There is a reason we have judges (and three very competent one's at that) and they had the fight extremely close. which makes me wonder how controversial this result actually was. If Xman got it by one or two points on one card and lost it by one or two on the others I just don't see the controversy. either way, I would love to see a rematch. Maybe Luke with more than a few days notice would take it out of the "controversial" category.

paddy.i didn't mean to disrespect and I don't think that about his opponents. jez lost a lot of weight in the last week of training and nearly ko'd him in the first(shoulda been a knock down).and sharpy on 2 days notice won the fight imagine he had 8 weeks to train like x did.

No disrespect at all taken mate :TU: If fights are close then you gotta say that the boxers skills are close. You can add that one fighter had less true skill but got the other to box his fight eg. counter punching, making it a brawl etc etc. That happens a lot, but it also takes skill to make your opponent fight your fight.
Managing your weight is also part of the skill, and i've seen so many guys cut too much weight and not do themselves justice. Their choice. In the end you are only as good as you are on the night.
I had it first 2 rounds to sharpy and the last 6 to X-man, but 3 and 4 were close, and if you had given both to Sharpy then that would be a draw at best. It's really a moot point, because I cant really make any more comment until I see the Video (DVD for the young folk).
There are boxers who always seem to fight well and seem to get a few harsh decisions, Jeremy Allen was one of them, and I guess its just boxing.
Funny to talk about Videos... I just found an old Videotape of Naseem Hamed "Licensed to thrill" in an old case :box:
