Unless hes what we call a gorja traveller
Re: gypsy fighter
His Mum and Dad are Irish so I'd guess one or both is an Irish traveller, don't know if there's any difference between Romani gypsies and Irish travellers though.mrpedigree wrote:by these accounts How is Gavin a gypsy ?beano wrote:Gavin's a gypsy he was brought up on the same estate as his gym in hall green he's been there since he was born his best mate big Dean who also posts on here lived on the same site think he's a trainer now pair of toe rags as kids had to bar them both from the swan shopping centre where I was security nice to see them both doing well

It was Davey Jones, Mickey Duffs right hand man who informed me of Henrys background, maybe it was more romantic, I worked all of Whartons fights and he was the biggest ticket seller I have ever been involved with. Out of interest do show people and gypsys not get on?, I knew some proper show people and they were boxing the same time as Henry and they got on very well.mrpedigree wrote:Your right Micky , Henry is a Uk Romany Gypsy the same as me , and to call us a travelling showman/fairground people is just about the worst insult next to being called gyppo or P1key etcmickey1975 wrote:You are wrong. I think Henry Wharton was from a show/ circus travelling background but might be wrong.
Millions of travelling lads in the amateurs they really are part of boxing heritage.

It wasn't just travellers who supported him though. He was very popular in York and Leeds. Not seen a ticket seller like him either. Buglioni is good but the York Hall wouldn't have been big enough for Henry. Superb nights at the Town Hall.

Re: gypsy fighter
What a lot of people dont know is ,unlike romany gypsys ,showmen are not from any ethnic origin/group , they transcended from hose dwelling gorja people like yourself , the only thing they have in common with gypsies is that they travel about in trailers but thats where all similarities end .dapug wrote: Out of interest do show people and gypsys not get on?, I knew some proper show people and they were boxing the same time as Henry and they got on very well.
Our origins and traditions are very different, and unlike that of today with English gypsys and Irish travellers mixing/marring ,fairground people do so far less just like real gorja people in houses .

What's with this gorja word? Who does it describe? Real gorja people?
Re: gypsy fighter
Thank you for a very informed description, It is superb how much you can learn on this forum and it reminds me of my amateur days (I was very average but loved it) my main sparring partner, Nelson Smith, was a Gypsy lad and now over 20 years later we are still good friends, boxing really does bring people together, I am a little old fashioned but boxing should be back in schools, anyway that is for another day and another forum debate!mrpedigree wrote:What a lot of people dont know is ,unlike romany gypsys ,showmen are not from any ethnic origin/group , they transcended from hose dwelling gorja people like yourself , the only thing they have in common with gypsies is that they travel about in trailers but thats where all similarities end .dapug wrote: Out of interest do show people and gypsys not get on?, I knew some proper show people and they were boxing the same time as Henry and they got on very well.

Also you may not of heard that there are Irish travellers called Gavin's but there are, so you must not know much about "your own kind"
Has you said your educating most gorja's ( Gaja ) on this forum of the meaning, let me educate you on some of the most popular/biggest traveller/gypsy family names
Probably biggest & most popular names/families of Irish travellers are:
McDonagh
Docherty
Joyce
Ward
Kiely
Fury
Mcginley
Gavin's
for Romani or English gypsys it's
Smiths
Lees
Boswell
Lovell
Obviously there's more aswell but that's just naming a few:
IMO it doesn't matter what you are, we are all gods children ;;-)
P.S beano your a funny geezer with that story about me & Frankie

Fair dos, just seems unusual for it to happen with travellers.Boxingcutsman wrote:With all due respect That's a personal & private matter for Frankie and not for strangers on a forumexpe wrote:How come? Re: gypsy fighter
I can tell your not a gypsy Frankie , because no real gypsy man would refer to his ethnic heritage gyppo , highly offensive amongst my people, its a bit like and half cast person calling all his father side as n*ggers but not wanting to be know or referred to as black , no doubt you will get all the spinless gorja chavies sticking up for you using that word on this site nowFrankie Gavin wrote:I have never bothered with my dad but his side are travellers my nans name was lizzie power before she got married! You mention all the well know Irish Names and including the Fury name but what i guess you dont know is the Furys have just as much english romany blood running through them as Irish, i think the Irish handle is something tyson wanted to get a handle on :)Boxingcutsman wrote:
