Tyson said just after his beatdown against Lewis that he probably could have never beaten him.
Said the Brit was just too big and too strong.
I concur with Iron Mike.
Lewis would have kept him impaled on the end of his jab and ended matters in the 8th round. Shades of 2002.
A tall guy like Lewis with a thudding jab and decent movement would always play havoc with Tyson.

I will go with prime Tyson. Tyson was fading by time he fought Douglas, and 3 half years of prison finished him, the post 3 half year prison version of Tyson is a man well past his prime.

I'll take Lennox to be on his game enough to weather early an storm then the fight probably finishes the way their actual fight finished.

I don't know I feel that after seeing Lewis' ring entrance he looked star struck and there was no staredown which are always factored into Tyson's fights. I felt the first 4 rounds Tyson had opportunities to catch Lewis but looked sluggish. Being that Tyson was sedated also took away his biggest strength which was his rage. Tyson can be modest sometimes regarding his comments but I feel he had a very good shot at destroying Lewis early being the way Lewis reacted to facing Tyson on the big stage.

Lewis only lost when he wasn't prepared physically or mentally.
He would have been ready, of course, for Tyson and would have handled the little man convincingly.
Douglas approximated Lewis with his height, strong jab and smart movement. He wasn't as good as Lewis.
If Buster could do it with those keys, Lewis would have duplicated it in spades.

Tyson got cocky indulged in his "Big in Japan" lifestyle and overlooked a hungry and saddened Douglas whose inspiration and desire to win was greater than Tyson's that night. However the post prison Tyson was moderately faded.

On a good Tyson night Douglas would've been another early KO victim added to his resume. Tyson was overweight out of shape and primed for an upset that night and still put Douglas on the canvas hard. It doesn't matter how well you are prepared (Lewis) if Tyson takes the pre psychological advantage mentally he already sucked out a chunk of his opponents confidence. Don't get me wrong I am not a fan of Tyson's but Lewis never had that fear in face entering a championship bout. Lewis is usually calm, laid back or dancing before entering the ring.

Good point.

That being said, if he could weather the early storm, I'd go with Lewis by UD

Personally the fight they had really shouldn't be factored into how a prime version of both fighters would pan out simply because of Tyson being medicated.

I got to check the Boxers of the Past forum because I don't know what the hell they talk about because all of their topics are here.

If they fought 10 tens times, Tyson wins 7 and Lewis wins 3. I think this is the best way to judge hypothetical matches.

I think Lewis - Tyson would play out the same way that Douglass - Tyson, Lewis - Tua, and Lewis - Tyson played out. Tyson was definitely more than a decade beyond his very narrow prime when he fought Lewis. But that not withstanding, I think Tyson is bound to struggle with giant fighters who can keep him on the tip of their jab, like Lewis.

I'd take Lewis as explained in the other thread; I think he'd survive as Bobby asks and prevail.

It would depend very much on how Lewis responds in the 2nd half. I think he would be behind on the cards and struggling to contain a fired up Tyson. But if Lewis is still in one piece he could have turned it around for a late stoppage win.

My homer pick would be Tyson because I love his style. My heart would say Tyson but my head would say Lewis.

Prime Mills Lane stops it via DQ in the fourth after MIKE bites a chunk of Lennox's calf after a knockdown.

Discussing a "prime" Tyson is an interesting prospect.
When it comes to his "prime" physical years, I feel like after Cus died he slowly but continually regressed in skill, so for me, he was at his best as a fighter, very early on.
His ferocity, intensity and intimidation factor cannot be debated, but he's probably the most globally overrated fighter ever.
That being said, he's also the most fascinating personality of my lifetime and I'll always tune in to see him do whatever it is that he's doing.

Lewis beats him, prime or no.

During his earlier losses, Tyson still landed a significant amount of power shots. For a fighter who is an all-tme great in the power department, that's a scary thing for Lewis to go up against.

Also, I think the whole big guys giving Tyson "trouble" is overrated. Tyson barely lost rounds to those "big guys". In fact, Tyson was said to be struggling whenever he didn't KO an opponent int he second round.

Prime Tyson does land at least 50 power shots on Lewis. Do you think Lewis stands up to that assault. That's why I think 7 out of 10 times, Tyson wins.

What makes you think they all land on the chin? Lennox chin wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be. When it comes to two high level boxers I tend to favor the boxer who can punch than someone with Tyson's style
