Tommy Morrison and the 90s Heavyweights
Let's hyptothesis that Tommy Morrison was made HIV Positive in 1995 denying him the big pay days in the last great golden age of the heavyweight division how would The Duke stand up against.
Michael Moorer
Evander Holyfield
Riddick Bowe
and Mike Tyson.

Re: Tommy Morrison and the 90s Heavyweights
Morrison get's stopped by Moorer in about 8th, Holyfield in about the 3rd, Tyson in the 1st, and Bowe in the 2nd.
Re: Tommy Morrison and the 90s Heavyweights
Moorer's a tough call. I'd confidently favor the other three to stop him.

It really all depends, as I have said many times before, what version of Tommy showed up.
Following the Lennox Lewis fight (IBC title) Tommy was in negotiations for a three-fight deal which would have culminated in a mega-clash with Mike Tyson. He was scheduled to fight Arthur Weathers, but then he failed the HIV test. Who the second man in line after Weathers could have been, is anyone's guess.
Crazy as it sounds I think a Morrison/Tyson fight is a 50/50 proposition. Both men started off fast, both men hit like a ton of bricks, etc. I think the fight is lucky if it goes four or five rounds. I can see Tyson getting hurt, maybe even getting dropped momentarily and coming back to stop Morrison.
Michael Moorer is the big question mark for me. Here was a man who had all the speed and talent you could ever want, but he didnt have the desire or the chin. Whether Morrison could catch him or not is anyone's guess, but I could see it going the full twelve rounds in a majority or split decision.
Holyfield in 1996-1997 was starting to slip and was right for the taking, however, I believe Holyfield would have probably got to Tommy in eight or ten rounds. Holyfield was the best conditioned heavyweight of the 1990's and (as I showed in the Marciano punch stat thread) he came a close second to Marciano in terms of overall punches thrown in fights. Evander also had probably the best chin I have ever seen from a man of his size. Morrison could hurt him, but I dont think he had enough to keep Holyfield hurt.
Riddick Bowe, I never was much a fan of or could ever see what people went crazy about, but he could take an unbelievable amount of punishment in that ring (the Golota fights proved that). Being almost 6'5" and 245 pounds he was certainly stronger and bigger than Morrison---- but I dont know how he would of faired in the early going with Tommy. Morrison was such a fast starter in fights and I could see him rocking Bowe, but whether that would be enough I am not sure. I think Morrison wins the first four-five rounds, and then starts to tire and fade away and Bowe gets him in seven rounds.
All these predictions providing, of course, that it was the best possible Tommy Morrison in the ring when he would go to face these guys.

Morrison would have a puncher's chance against Mooorer, but Moorer would probably beat him 4 out of 5. Holyfield, Bowe and Tyson would have been brutal mismatches. Morrison loses them all badly.

Re: Tommy Morrison and the 90s Heavyweights
Morrison went 5 with Ray. I think only Tyson can stop him in that 1-3 round range. Bowe in around 6. Holyfield to win in say 8. With Moorer he could potentially have gone the distance or have been stopped very late on exhausted.Seamus wrote:Morrison get's stopped by Moorer in about 8th, Holyfield in about the 3rd, Tyson in the 1st, and Bowe in the 2nd.
Re: Tommy Morrison and the 90s Heavyweights
Moorer had big trouble against Bert Cooper & Alex Stewart. I can see Tommy getting to him. He has a shot at least.
