Naz didn't look great by his standards last time but to be fair he won by a virtual shut-out against the European champion. It wasn't all bad news. Calvo would have given the present day Nicky Cook plenty to think about and enough people tip Cook to topple Scott Harrison one day.
Naz looked poor against a european class featherweight, and was getting bowled over by top class featherweights four and more years ago.

Nicky Cook is still improving, and the point is that Naz was obviously well in decline by the time he got to Calvo.

I'm with Ian on this one, Naz has been through all this bollocks before claiming he is coming back, who could forget him twice yanking Brodie's chain, and John Shep was surely not making it up when he said Naz was coming back.

My guess is that Naz likes the idea of it, but when push comes to shove and he starts having to do roadwork, press ups and all that jazz, his desire for a comeback soon evaporates.

As for the court case, I think this has no bearing on it whatsoever. Why would the judge care about his career, when it is well known that Naz is a multi millionnaire.

If I were a betting man, I would bet on this coming to absolutely fornicate all.

He's just trying to keep his name up in lights.

Naz does not have the stomach for a fight. The Barrera loss proved that.

He relied too much on power & athleticism & although his power will still be there, judging by recent photos of him, I'd say that his athleticism has long since left the building! :o

agreed, but the other times he hasn't had a tv contract behind him.now he apparently does, word is it's HBO and another little whisper is he could be on the card for a fight in germany in mid december....the last one i find hard to believe..but i do believe he's gonna come back..which should be fun for a while

Err, guess you didn't see the Polo fight then. Harrison is top 5, but he wouldn't beat the likes of a Barrera, Marquez or Morales.

Well in the article he states that it is against his principles to fight another Muslim. Apparently he has no problem hitting non-muslims though....

Guess he regards non-muslims as lower people......

Some would argue this is racist.

Who knows?
PRINCE Naseem Hamed has revealed he will never fight Britain's Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan.

The former world featherweight boxing champion, 31, is planning to return to the ring after a three-year absence – raising speculation of a big-money clash against Khan, the nation's new Anglo-Asian hero.

Although Hamed campaigned at featherweight – winning the WBC, IBF and WBO titles – and Khan is looking to move into the light-welterweight division, the Prince could well fight at the heavier weight after putting on the pounds during his absence from the ring.

Hamed, however, refuses to put money before his religion – and will not fight another Muslim, regardless of the amounts of cash involved.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Hamed said: "To be honest, Amir Khan is a different weight to me and I think he is going to get bigger – but there is one thing that I have always stuck to and I always will do; I will never fight another Muslim.

"I might spar with him, or teach him a few tricks but – even if there was a billion dollars on the line – I would never get in the ring with another Muslim. It is against my principles."

Khan, 18, has been widely tipped to become British boxing's youngest world champion after winning a silver medal at last year's Olympics in Athens – overhauling Hamed's record.

Only last weekend, he secured his third consecutive professional victory when stopping Walsall's Steve Gethin in the third round.

"He is a fantastic talent," admitted Hamed. "He has done unbelievable things in his career but he is only 18 and he has yet to do what I started out to do. At 19, I was the European champion, at 21, I was the world Champion. I hope he follows in the same steps and I believe he can do it, 100 per cent."

Hamed was WBO champion for six years prior to his defeat against Marco Antonio Barrera in Las Vegas four years ago.

Prince ends silence amid rumours of new US deal

Steve Bunce, sport.independent.co.uk

The little fighter once known as Prince Naseem Hamed was never lost for words during his career and after a three-year silence the once brilliant boxer has found his voice again.

Hamed, 31, has broken his silence to talk about his only defeat as a professional, fatherhood, boxer Ricky Hatton and perhaps more importantly, and certainly most interestingly, a possible return to the ring.

The last time Hamed fought was in May 2002, when he easily beat Spain's Manuel Calvo in a bizarre fight that was an extremely disappointing final encounter of a truly brilliant career. The previous year Hamed had lost for the very first time when he fought like a novice against Mexico's Marco Antonio Barrera and in the months after this feat many people in the business were shocked that Hamed never pushed for a rematch.

"Barrera beat me fair and square, hands down, and I am the first one to say well done," said Hamed, 55 months after leaving the ring in Las Vegas. "You have to take victory and defeat like a man. I will never make excuses for that night."

Hamed claimed the reason he has been in exile was to allow him more time with his two young sons and his wife, but he hinted that he is now ready and that there are people keen to see him return to action. There is allegedly a contract for six fights in America, from an unknown TV company, just waiting for his signature.

"Realistically, I am still very young, and I've not had too many beatings. In fact, for 20 years I've fought as an amateur and a pro and, in my opinion, I only lost once and that was against Barrera."

If Hamed can step back into the ring before his birthday next February he will still be younger than the current World Boxing Association and International Boxing Federation champion Juan Manuel Marquez and the World Boxing Council champion Injin Chi, both of whom are 32.

"I took time out of boxing to spend with my kids and my family and I didn't want my life to be completely taken up by the sport. I started boxing at the age of seven and it was my life for too long, but after the break I feel fresh," Hamed said.

It appears that Hamed's interest in the sport, which he came to dominate so prominently a decade ago, has been stirred by Manchester's Hatton. In 1997 Hatton fought on the undercard when Hamed knocked out Kevin Kelly at Madison Square Garden and in June of this year Hamed watched Hatton beat Kostya Tszyu to win the IBF light-welterweight title and gain the full respect of everybody in the sport.

"It was the most fantastic fight that I have ever seen and I wish I had been there. Hatton beat the best in the division, a modern legend, and you can now make a case for saying Hatton is the best in the world at his weight," Hamed said.

Hatton defends his title in Sheffield on 26 November and Hamed has promised to appear in public for the first time since he left the ring after beating Calvo to watch his friend fight.

God what tripe this is. Naz cannot fight Khan because he's big and getting bigger (errr, he's smaller than Hatton mate by some considerable way) and also because he's a muslim, unlike non-muslims who aren't even human beings it would seem.

Dreadful comment.

Wouldn't it be great to see Naz try his luck at 140? The likes of Hatton & co would pummel that midget and make him another inch shorter.
So would any of the leading featherweights.

Hamed is an annoying, attention seeking prick.

Let me see an up to date picture of him and then I will have a better judge on whether he will be back or not. I still not to sure about that so called picture of him on the recent rags, it just doesn't look 100% like him.

Former featherweight champion Prince Naseem Hamed has stated that he has a six-fight deal offered to him by an American TV firm and claims he will be back in action next year. The Prince has been out of action for three-and-a-half years.

This thread should have a different name, there is absolutely no possibility of Naz ever facing Hatton.
