You doing it again, because he does have a good chin though.

Diaz nearly sent him through the ropes in the 2nd or 3rd round I think it was, with a big right hand and Beltran got up from it, where most would still be laying there today. It was like a fairground punch ball job, he threw it from 10 feet away and it landed flush and the ropes stopped him sitting in the first row with the audience.

In the opener Beltran was dropped by the Korean, with the exact same punch that blew away Abner Mares - a short chopping hook. Beltran gets up, dusts himself off and then dives straight back in and then drops Kim like a bag of spuds with an even harder left hook of his own. Kim almost goes under the bottom rope in the process.

An average chin is one that gets shaken to the boots when connected - Beltran is bowled over by the power of the punches he's been hit with, and still gets up clear-eyed.

I'd not seen Beltran before last night and he was a very good performer - nothing too flashy and he looked composed and powerful, he was coordinated and did not get flustered - he ought to have had the verdict his work deserved.

Im not doing it again though. I saw the fight with Kim. He dropped Beltran with a heavy hook and Beltran looked legitimately buzzed by it. At no stage during last night's fight did Beltran look bothered by Burn's punching power. He was hitting him with clean 1,2's and Beltran hardly even blinked. That's the point im making. Gonzalez never looked overly fussed by Burn's punching power either. He just gassed out and got frustrated that he couldnt take Ricky out like he has a lot of his previous opponents. On top of that he also apparantly had damaged his hand. Whether he should of quit like he did is a whole different matter. Ps Gonzalez flattened Mares but Gonzalez is probably one of the biggest punchers in the sport. He has a similar kind of record to Randall Bailey in terms of number of wins and knockouts.

Burns has good power but not when he's got a broken jaw to contend with; Ricky hit hard enough in the first couple of rounds though I don't think he'd have dropped Beltran who looked very solid.

Burns has never been a good puncher, and I think his power is average at best.

People went overboard and started talking about how he's punched hard since moving to 135, but that's based mainly on the lone fight against Mitchell. Looking at most of his fights, you'll see that his opponents don't appear too bothered when he lands even though he regularly lands cleanly; I don't see why one showing of power should outweigh several showings void of power.

Martinez - Hurt him a few times throughout the fight.
Evensen - Dropped in the first.
Laryea - Didn't seem hurt at any stage, but quit after 7.
Cook - Hard to say with the way the fight went.
Katsidis - Hit hard enough to stop him in his tracks but never seriously wobbled.
Moses - Never looked hurt.
Mitchell - Destroyed by one left hook he never recovered from, only man to put Mitchell on the floor.
Gonzalez - Hurt him in the 7th with an uppercut.
Beltran - Never looked troubled.

I think he hits hard enough to get respect, but he's not going to take people out with one punch.

Im not sure whether you can ever really use Mitchell as a gauge though. He was badly hurt by Johanssen and Katsidis pretty blew him away. I dont think Mitchell has the greatest punch resistance to be honest.

Kevin won't be mistaken for Oliver McCall but he is not weak chinned, he was hurt by Johanssen who was doing really well at British level and he took some good punches from Murray before coming back and beating them. No one is walking through Burns so he must he hitting hard enough to discourage.

He'd never been on the floor though and Burns flattened him with one punch.

Does anyone think if Burns does move up in weight it will be a good thing? May increase his power?

He looked a bit gaunt at the weigh in, as long as he puts on 5lbs of muscle then he'll hit harder, if he just cuts down less then it might not. He'd still be a pretty big light welter to be fair.

I'd say he's a pretty light punch for his level but a great worker and he's got the heart of a lion, I still feel he's surpassed himself to get to the level he has but then you can't knock the lad he's won the fights and he's now been world champion a long time.

Defo beat the other night though, awful call.

The lads at light welter toward the top of the rankings are very hard hitters, light welter is an even more competitive division than lightweight - Ricky has done really well to get a world title and defend but would be up against it to crack any of the champs or contenders at 10 stone + none would come to Scotland, he'd have to box away and the boot would be on the other foot regards scoring etc.

He might beat Lenny Daws etc around the Lonsdale region.

The only shot I'd give him would be against Amir Khan at 140lb on account of the whiskers.

Not Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Mike Alvarado, Brandon Rios etc - they're too big and powerful.

Basically the size advantages he enjoyed at 130 and 135 wouldn't be there any more. But hey, you never know ?

He is popular because of his heart and personality - not his ability. So can still draw.

he was at his best sticking to Straight punches then switch to body

he was trying to land single body shots from Distance on Sat night and the big flapping right hand

totally out of sorts (maybe due to the broken jaw) , hes very good at the basics aswell and has been very successful with it

Im not saying Murray is feather fisted by all means but he seems to grind people down more than take them out with big power. How many of his stoppages were in the early rounds? He's also a very aggressive come forward fighter so the argument of he takes his time wouldnt really apply.
