Aaron Pryor vs Wilfred Benitez@140lbs(prime)

Post by zuru »

Both fighters won their title against the same man,Antonio Cervantes.Pryor stopped him in 4,and Benitez decisioned him.Not a lot should be read into this however,as Benitez fought him when he was closer to his prime, and even though he was still dangerous by the time Pryor beat him,he was more on the downslide.Pryor was a whirlwind, who could box, slug,or both.He had a good chin, and always came in shape.Back in these days,Benitez was hungry. He hadn't begun the "burnt out"faze that plagued him later in his career,he too would be in excellent shape.Remember Cervantes had a ton of experience, good boxing skills, and a big right hand, and Benitez beat him near his prime.I know most will go for Pryor, but I'm going with the prodigy,Benitez was one of a kind, and would be slipping, sliding, and outhustling Pryor on his way to a close decision win.Benitez wins close decision

Question to theone....Is size the reason you think this? Benitez being the naturally bigger fighter?

I pick Pryor by decision. I see Pryor putting so much pressure on Benitez that he (Benitez) would be stuck in defensive mode all night and never get set to counter attack.
Benitez might look like the more clever fighter, but Pryor would score all the telling blows.

Based on styles actually. At his best Benitez could move all night;he was adapt at avoiding the punches of more polished fighters than Pryor and the Hawk would be wide open for his counters. At his best pressure never bothered Benitez, it was someone who had as good a boxing skills as him and were a tad quicker, like Leonard and Hearns.
