Get well soon Ricky!

Post by davie »

http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/1806 ... jaw-injury

The fact that he has broken his jaw and had surgery, including metal plates fitted, was covered in another thread.
But I'd just like to start this one to wish Ricky all the best and a speedy and full recovery.
Sometimes thing get put into perspective and shit like poor scoring of a fight starts to seem inconsequential.
whether he won the fight or not really doesn't matter and I feel a tad silly having started a thread yesterday probing billy nelson for a concession yesterday, reading the other thread about his injury people are still debating the result when a fighters career is at threat. Ricky left the ring yesterday not caring 1 bit whether he'd won or lost
he's one of the most down to earth people in the sport and he deserves our support regardless of yesterdays result, which was out of his hands.
I hope he can make a full recovery and get back in the ring, but equally, if his injury is going to create a risk of further serious injury, I hope he stays out of the ring and thinks of his health

I called on billy to admit his fighter lost yesterday, I didn't realise the extent of the injury and I apologise. today i'd like to call on billy to pass the best wishes of the fans on to ricky.

Yeah, good luck to him. Seems like a very decent bloke. Hard as nails to carry on through that.

Some people are to quick to judge. I thought he lost the fight although he certainly wasn't the Ricky Burns I have watched in the past. For any athlete to carry on with major injury shouldn't be disregarded. I read in another post some idiot couldn't see the big deal about fighting with a broken jaw?? Burns has tons of heart he has showed this in his last two fights and deserves credit.

I hope he comes through this as IMO he's very decent lad. He probably realises he has over achieved in sense, and certainly isn't deluded like some fighters who brag about be great etc... Best case scenario is the rematch in England (wouldn't want Ricky's career being compared to Ottke's :shame: ) I think a 100% fit Ricky beats Beltran.

Beltran was beating him up before the injury which also happened to be caused by Beltran hitting him. People make too many excuses. I hope Ricky recovers and comes back well but he lost that fight fair and square.

How do we definietly know it happened in the second though? I watched the fight backed and it wasnt till the later rounds that he actually started complaining about the pain in his jaw. On top of that it was a PUNCH that caused it. It wasnt like he went into the fight injured.

Yeah they probably should of too be honest. Especially if it ends up being the case that he cant ever box again and the sustained damage after the break could possibly caused that.

His manager has already stated he will be back fighting! I didn't know he was a doctor:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/boxing/24016104

Basically everyone up here needs to make a living of Burns, so he can offer Beltran a rematch in Glasgow, Beltran will tell them to get stuffed and they can fight Crolla here instead.

Simples.

The funniest quote in boxing this year:

However, Morrison believes Burns owes Beltran another shot at the title - and says the Coatbridge fighter is keen for it happen.

"It's the moral thing to do," he said. "Ricky wants to fight him again here in Scotland in front of another packed crowd.

"But it will only take place here in Scotland.

"If Beltran wants a rematch, he'll have to come here again."

To be fair to Ricky I get the feeling he would give Beltran the opportunity as he's seem that kind of guy. Regarding the rematch only happening in the UK though, I find it funny how they can go over to the states to fight Crawford possibly who doesnt have a big fan base but yet they cant do the same for Beltran.

I think Burns would fight him again (and would fight anyone), but he will be told (not asked), to do it in Scotland.

I do agree it's very strange to go to US to fight Crawford. But Top Rank may have a say in it. I think it was all talk to be honest.

I wish the WBO had the balls to tell them to fight at a neutral venue (London would do), but I just can't see it. It makes no economic sense at all.

To be honest I dont know if it being in London or anywhere in the UK would make any difference. You'd still have the same UK ref's and judges.

I imagine that if the rematch is offered Beltran would be willing to come back but only if there is neutral judges and a neutral ref.

Crawford has HBO backing, whereas Beltran doesn't, he brings nothing to the table financially. A rematch in Glasgow with a neutral ref and judges, if he turns that down, then it's his own fault, he'll never get the fight in the US.

That's a fair point. Im sure he could get a date with HBO for a world title fight in the states though.

Possibly, but I doubt it would be for the same money as Crawford and none of the casinos would pay a big site fee for it, so the money from ticket sales in Glasgow might offset the HBO money.

Well Beltran can feck off he doesn't call the shots, Burns is well within his rights to fight Belltran in Scotland or not at all, regarding neutral judges is Carlos Ortiz Jr. from Scotland?
