My father-in-law and three or four of the lads at work are casual fans, who don't know much about boxing, but will watch it when it's on and have no idea of Danny Williams level of shotness.

If Holdsworth says tells the casual fan that a fight ain't worth watching. What do you think they'd do? Turn over of course.

If I was gonna watch a footy match on SKY (I'm an occasional footy fan) and the commentator said, "this match is goning to be dull as hell, because both teams play really dull, boring, defensive football.".... What would I do? That's right..... I'd turn over.

I'm not talking about hard-core know-it-all boxing fans. I'm talking about sports fans, who tune in now again to watch a bit of boxing if there's nowt else on the TV.

Surely they could see Williams was washed up with their eyes. Why would Holdsworth pointing out the obvious upset them so much?

Maybe its better to be explain to casual boxing fans why the fight is awful rather than letting them believe its a legit fight. Would probably damage their long term interest less.

I normally don't mind Steve but that his commentry for the Williams fight was awful. He was harping on about the Negus win as if Negus (his mate as he kept reminding the viewer) was a legitimate contender. It wasn't even a legitimate 'fight'.

So if he is trying to cater for the lay boxing fan, why talk about Negus so much.

And then the turn around.... "Yeah, Danny needs to retire, he's gone etc" - and not be surprised at it.... during the ring enterances and before it became a farce Holdsworth was harping on about the Tyson days like it was yesterday... it was a shambles. Richie Woodhall did know what to say.
