FLOYD v CANELO
Is it really this week ? A super fight at last, and hardly any threads - 15 or so on Burns & Billy Nelson instead.
And it's not even listed on the allegedly schedule ??
Floyd's looked invincible, but Alvarez looks the real deal, as near an acid test as Pretty Boy has had in years.
I don't think Floyd can hurt him, but Canelo looks to have the weight of shot to do some damage.... If he can land enough, of course...
First US flight in years I will be staying up for, And a fantastic fight on the undercard too- I think García can win that one

It has been talked about for months already not much else to say is there apart from Floyd wins on points or Canelo is too strong.MightyWarrior wrote:Is it really this week ? A super fight at last, and hardly any threads - 15 or so on Burns & Billy Nelson instead.

we actually do have a thread on this fight its labeled 'If canelo comes in at 154lb' by Tom.. we talked about the differing styles and how MW will have to much and will frustrate Alvarez.. the theme is a win by UD wide for Mayweather...
PS you have Garcia for the win?? You should put some money on that ... you will probably get a good bit of cash back if he manages to survive and beats Matthysse ... However as sure as i am that MW will beat Alvarez.. Lucas will KO Garcia by the 4th if not earlier... not unless Garcia can miraculously land one like he did on Khan and get himself out of trouble again.. but i cant see it myself...

Re: FLOYD v CANELO
Garcia did much better with Judah than Matthysse did, imo.
& the Argie is massively over-rated on t'Internet, due to him being the online trumpeted fighter du jour (various reasons: fan friendly style, has lost a couple of tight decisions, big hitter, & not from an English speaking country so people feel like they're part of some special club for championing him) for those who consider themselves "hardcore boxing fans".
His destruction of Peterson was scary, but who knows how much not being pumped full of synthetic testosterone took out of Lamont? I remember him being bounced around the canvas by Victor Ortiz before Ortiz went mentalist & let him come back & steal a draw.
I think Garcia is good value here, & at the very least will put up a much better fight than the fanboys are predicting. Who knows what will happen to Matthysse if he walks onto the same left hook counter that did for Morales & Khan?
As for the main event... I dunno. I'd be more excited if Floyd was more faded & Canelo more seasoned. It looks to have come too early, tbh, but I might drag my arse out to do a Mega-Thread, if the enthusiasm begins to mount...
PS: Gutted I didn't do a Mega-thread for Jhonny "Don't Call Me Johnny" Gonzalez the other week.

Make sure you do.
Yeah timing could be better for Alvarez, but better early than never, as we've seen too many big fights go off the boil & disappear. The Mexicans fancy this one & the rising star really does look a born winner. Floyd will probably have too much, but it could be a classic.
And Garcia has a deadly punch himself, and a excellent chin ( he'll be needing it )

I have been thinking about this a lot. Floyd will stop him or at least batter him like a piece of fish in the later rounds.

Mayweather on points, pulling away in the last third of the fight as usual. Canelo's not exactly relentless at 154lb and being made to come in at 150lb won't help him at all. I've heard Trout was unucky to receive the decision. Whatever happens it's a bout Canelo can't do anything but learn from, but be very surprised if he wins.

Re: FLOYD v CANELO
Using Judah as a bench mark is not a fair reflection of both fighters due to the time they fought and Judah being pretty inconsistent as you never know which one is going to turn up.. + i had Lucas up by 2 but as with the beltran fight that means nothing today... in fact the loses to Alexander and Judah has actually carved lucas into a better fighter... I would astonished if Garcia came through this.. however its all hearsay reality will be on the night...Datsue wrote:Garcia did much better with Judah than Matthysse did, imo.

Alvarez will struggle against MW and become frustrated by the lack of a target.... Canelo is not renown for fast hands and will no doubt tire due to fresh air shots and when his energy levels sag MW will pick off Alvarez at will .... MW is just to good for a stand up-straight fighter like Alvarez

Yep I just might do that, depends on odds...not sure yet. Just Garcia looks a really top fighter, and sometimes the really big punchers can be outworked if the other guy has a good chin - and while not in the Matthysee league, Morales can still really whack, presumably, and Khan is no slouch. The way he took those shots without blinking was impressive.ajwesty13 wrote:

But Matthysee is so dangerous and he seems to be that genuine rarity: a big puncher with a very solid chin.
Canelo is probably in the gym right now, endlessly practising body shots, because he should probably forget about targeting Floyd's chin.. till about mid way.
Canelo is a great nickname, but only in Spanish - Cinnamon Alvarez ??!

Garcia would probably be about 3/1 to win and i can imagine about 10/1 to go the distance and win on points...
yeah Garcia chin isnt to bad but has it really been tested? As for Khan when fighting with fast hands doesnt really set for the big punch...but if Matthysse connects then itl be lights out for Danny.... tbh for most boxers that would be the case.... Matthysse reminds me of GGG not as skillful and doesnt punch so hard but hes pretty close....
hahahah Cinnamon Alvarez has a nice ring to it lol
Re: FLOYD v CANELO
Can't see anything but a wide UD for Mayweather. Can't hit what you can't see, or whatever it is Floyd says.
Re: FLOYD v CANELO
I wonder if the judge said then when handing him a restraining order on his wife.
Mayweather and Im hoping Lucas can do the business on Garcia - what a shoot out that will be.

Im looking forward to Garcia vs Matthysse more than the headliner, neither of whom I care a great deal for.

Re: FLOYD v CANELO
Canelo is gonna outwork him. He's gonna throw more more punches, but land less and it'll carry him to a debatable decision. Key punch in the fight is Canelo's jab.
Re: FLOYD v CANELO
any gameplans Canelo might have will go out of the window IMO, he'll spend most of the fight figuring out a way to actually get close and land anything, then before you know it 12 rounds have passed and Floyd has the easy decision.

Or he hyperventilates due to the big stage.Mensa07 wrote:any gameplans Canelo might have will go out of the window IMO, he'll spend most of the fight figuring out a way to actually get close and land anything, then before you know it 12 rounds have passed and Floyd has the easy decision.
Floyd's beating this boy with ease.

Re: FLOYD v CANELO
If Alvarez had shown a relentless, marauding style in previous contests then I'd have more faith he could pull it off here. But he just looks like a relatively conventional box-fighter next to Floyd, who looks bang up for this one. I think the fight will disappoint largely.
The American PPV prices still stagger me to be honest. 60 odd quid to watch Mayweather even after that dull affair vs Guerrero. Bizarre.
I'm surprised to see so many people write off Danny Garcia. He surely has an excellent chance of outboxing Mathysse.

Re: FLOYD v CANELO
thing about alvarez is that i dont think he has ever really been pushed. he fought trout like an old experienced fighter, even when he put him down he didnt over extend himself looking for the finish . i think he has a lot more in the tank, and that even mayweather will be surprised. i look at how mayweather struggled with cotto last year and i think that alvarez is much faster, much harder to hit, and is coming into his prime.

Re: FLOYD v CANELO
I think the most interesting part of this fight is going to be the weigh-in weights and what the weight difference is on fight night, is there a clause to what canelo comes in at ? There must be ! Floyd yet again will make a good fighter look ordinary IMO, the main undercard is a great fight and I wouldn't be surprised if Garcia takes his best shots and claims a points victory
