Yeah I went through a phase where all I could think about was hanging myself and the urge was really strong. Unless you've been there it's hard to fully understand.
I thought about the act almost every day almost every minute. even went through it in my mind, to be honest with you I was scared it would not work.

Yeah the same. As much as people say negative things about people who commit suicide. It actually takes a lot of balls.

The mind can be a very dark place with no way out and small issues become confidence destroying monsters' I'm glad that non of the people on here went under and that they've got some way of dealing with their problems. It is a very widespread (and mostly invisible) problem, people only see a mask and do not know what is happening under the surface though I'm too much of a coward to do anything so final and decisive.

Not enough empathesis put on mental health in this country. There's still too much stigma around it. It seems to be a big issue in boxing in particular! I mean how stories of fighters and ex fighters and people involved in the sport having committed suicide have there been?!

I am in total shock at this tragic news. I was talking to Dean only last Saturday evening at York Hall & he was his usual happy go lucky self, we spoke of The Small Faces pop group who I know he loved. Words cannot express my shock, Dean was a lovely man who loved the fight game through & through, to say he will be missed would be a vast under statement. My thoughts are with his loved ones & family at this extremely difficult time. A true friend.

My problem was small things at work irritating me then a combination of money issues all morphing together, I planned my actions and in my head went through it all, i could see my funeral and people saying 'silly man' just could not attempt to try it as was scared it would fail and i would cause embarrassment. At the moment im ok but there is nothing to say something can trigger another bout of bad feelings in my head. I hope not as ive got lots to live and a fantastic 1 year old grandchild i want to see grow up

It's both saddening and shocking. It must be a terrible time for his family.

Is there any truth in that he stepped out in front of a train? If so I feel really sorry for the train driver. Imagine having that on your conscience.

Seems to be quite a common thing that train drivers have to deal with. Terrible though.

mimmy 123, that takes courage to say and go through what you had to, but please remember this there is always someone who will listen to you and give you the right advice, and of course you will want to see your grandson grow up big & strong. So just remember when you are down always take the time to speak with someone. Good luck for the future & keep strong yourself.

With all the spats and occasionally over-heated opinions you get on the B&I Forum, it's times like this you realise how futile they all are.

And what a lot of honorable, decent folk there are on here.

RIP Dean.

Nice to see some people opening up on here about their problems with depression. Theres nothing as lonely as suffering from depression and being unable to communicate how you feel to anyone else for fear of being rejected or laughed at or a burden etc. I think the more people open up about it the better and hopefully the stigma will lessen in time...
