Question for Mickey Helliet
Re: Question for Mickey Helliet
I'm going to this and would be interested to know as well, also how far is Fareham away from Portsmouth? I can easily get a train there but getting back's a problem.

Re: Question for Mickey Helliet
Hello chaps, we're still putting the fights together. I think the top of the bill alone makes it worth going. Couzens v Moore is also going to be a belter. Making fights like both of those 2 fights is never easy so I'm grateful in advance to the 4 fighters in those 2 fights for walking the walk & being prepared to step up to the plate. Anyone who has worked in pro boxing knows that in order to develop their ability & to market the fighters ultimately to TV they have to be built up and not rushed into fights they arent ready for. Thats the beauty of the top of the bill & chief support fights we've made, all the fighters are ready for the challenge and believe me they couldnt be more motivated.
Whoever comes out with the win here will be in an excellent position to get an area title shot.

Re: Question for Mickey Helliet
Coombs did step up in his last fight which was a good test. He isnt even on this bill! Billy, I always expect some lame whigeing comments from you as you clearly seem to have a massive chip on your shoulder regarding our shows. Why dont you just get a BBBofC promoters license and do some yourself instead of bitching about what we're doing. Just because you ended up on the boxing scrapheap prematurely doesnt mean all these other guys should as well! They will be matched in good learning fights until I feel they are ready to be stepped up.
If I could be bothered to run a critical eye other the non pro/semi pro (or whatever it is you call them) shows you put on I'm pretty sure I'd have a field day, but I don't. If your kind of shows appeal to people then great, let them buy tickets. If they want to see pro boxing they can come to our shows. I honestly think you are mugging yourself off by whineing about what we are doing.

Fairly harsh response. There must be some history here as I didn`t read too much spite in Billy`s posts.

I was going to post a reply to this thread the other day, but decided not to in case I came across as being a bit of a prick.HellraiserBoxing wrote:Coombs did step up in his last fight which was a good test. However, now that I have read the above I might as well as worst case scenario I just look like another prick, so at least I won't be on my own.
There are endless debates on this site about the future of the sport, how the sport is promoted etc. etc.
Who is your target market for your shows - do you just rely on the home boxers selling tickets to their friends and family ?
If not, where is the "promotion" ? - this show is just over a week away and who knows it is happening and who is telling the public why they should buy a ticket ?
3 fights confirmed (and I wouldn't personally pay to watch any of them) - just my opinion, not trying to be a dick.
But surely, if a boxing fan who wants to go has to ask such questions then there is absolutlely no chance of a "man in the street" buying a ticket.
At the end of the day, the vast majority of pro boxing in this country is a stitch up - just looking at the results on this site shows the home boxer (usually 8-0) winning against an opponent (usually 0-50).
If this is the product that is being sold, then this is only contributing to the problem.

Re: Question for Mickey Helliet
Guys its a small show in Fareham so if you want Floyd v Canelo I'm afraid you have to go to Vegas, we'd love to do it on one of our Fareham bills but the MGM Grand is always going to outbid us. Our show will be good value, after the last one in Fareham we were inundated with emails & facebook messages congratulating us on a great show. There is nothing wrong with prospects having learning fights, to me and many others they provide good entertainment as will the main event & chief support. I don't see why I would feel any guilt about putting 2 of my guys in against each other, if Phil sold more tickets we'd do it in his town but he doesn't Floyd does so its going ahead in Fareham! I dont see what difference it makes, regardless of whether it makes money for us or not? The fighters get an opportunity to fight in their home town and I'm pleased to have grafted to get them that opportunity.
If you don't want to come don't, I won't lose any sleep over it & the show will still sell.
The way I replied wasn't to do with what happened with Dean. I didnt sleep last night & am obviously very upset by it but I still would say the same thing. Just a bit bored of Billy slagging off what we are doing. I believe in looking after my fighters as best as I can, so will continue to put shows on in places like Fareham & Pompey and won't be overmatching them to keep Billy happy.

Re: Question for Mickey Helliet
billy i can notbelieve you being an ex boxer would put the likes of troy matthews and ricky denyer even in this forum.
the thing micky helliet is trying to do is get fights in portsmouth/hampshire and for some reason you seeem to want any local pro to fail.....
the card in fareham is moore vs couzens which looks like a great grudge match.
floyd moore vs phil gill another grudge match and good match up
on the under card we have leigh parks garry neale, sotons chris "machine gun " hobbs, andy gatenby, jjoel mcintyre, adam battle, brad watson.
how about supporting the local lads and stop being so negative....
as for mark coombs the lad stepped up in his last fight, he is rated in the top 20 in britain and is not even fighting on this show.

As you use the word "we" I assume that you are connected to the promoter ?
Who is the target market for your shows ?
It seems to me that there is a definte formula for small hall shows :
- Sign up a boxer
- Get him to sell tickets to his family, friends and workmates
- Get him half a dozen wins
- When his friends, family and workmates get bored of mismatches match him a bit tougher
- Boxer gets beat, loses interest, cannot sell tickets and drifts out of the sport
- Promoter signs up another boxer
- Copy above formula
- Rinse / repeat

im not associated with the promoter iam mates with one of the boxers and he is not even fighting on the show sherlock.......
the point iam making is to why mr bessey is basically slating the fareham show. then quotes about matchmaking skills with poor unlicensed fighters.
