This is my very first post. I'm pretty new to BoxRec but have used the site before (it's very nice). I've been searching and searching both on google and on these here forums for an answer to this but to no avail. Here's my issue:
There was a particular Pro Boxing match where two dudes had been boxing. Guy #1 had been knocked down twice in the round via punches from Guy #2. After getting up, the fight restarts and Guy #1 throws a right hand (I can't remember if it was an overhand right from a regular or a southpaw's right hook but it was a right hand; if i had to guess: overhand right from a regular). As Guy #1 throws this punch, Guy #2 weaves it. Guy #1 loses his balance throwing the punch, falls down, and via the three knockdown rule TKOs himself by losing his balance throwing a punch. IMMEDIATELY, Guy #2 had realized what had happened and started celebrating.
Here are the VERY few details I can (poorly) remember to help you folks identify this fight.
-Both guys were white. One of them (I believe the winner) might have been European.
-I believe the fight may have taken place in NYC. I could be wrong though.
-Relatively recent. I'm thinking last 5 years.
-It was an undercard bout.
Now I fully recognize that such little and poor information may make identifying this particular fight impossible. However, I figure it's worth a shot. A welcome alternative would be if anyone can tell me of ANOTHER fight where similar circumstances occurred in which a fighter went untouched and TKOd himself. Considering how many fights have happened in history, I'm sure the one I saw wasn't the only instance.
Anybody know?
Question about a fighter that TKOd himself
Re: Question about a fighter that TKOd himself
A slip is not a knockdown and wouldn't be counted towards the three knockdown rule.
Re: Question about a fighter that TKOd himself
^That is what I had assumed about the three knockdown rule. However, this fight got stopped. Guy #1 was so off balance when he thew that right hand that, upon hitting nothing but air, he fell over. And this fight was declared a TKO. Maybe the ref had the mentality that if this guy can't stay up while throwing his own punches, he must be too far gone to continue? That's me speculating. But I'm telling ya: This fight and subsequent result DID happen.
