'Irish national champion' Conor McGregor (UFC contender)??

Where could I find information if Conor McGregor was indeed an Irish national champion in the amateurs? This 'fact' is often mentioned during UFC broadcasts and they are known to lie and exaggerate for hype.

Never won an Irish amateur title but he did start out at Crumlin boxing club in Dublin i think .
