John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
Just watched the fight on the repeat, wow John Rowling is boring.
Mayweather, Mayweather, Mayweather dribble dribble gush gush.
I saw a fairly close fight, that Mayweather won on the back foot with his superior speed and skill, but one in which I gave a few rounds to Canelo and who kept himself in the fight. The scorecard of 116-112 is about what i saw.
If we were to believe the Mayweather fanboy commentary we just saw a one-sided beatdown of 120-108/119-109 proportions.

Re: John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
Barry Jones was the same, pretending Mayweather avoided every shot from an Alvarez combo even after they have just shown at least one Alvarez shot clearly land cleanly in slow motion.
Yeah Mayweather is great, but why exaggerate how unhittable he is?

Re: John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
I sometimes wonder if this is for the benefit of casual sports fans who don't quite get what is so great about Mayweather.
It does get tiresome. Alvarez was never going to win more rounds than Mayweather but he had his share of success throughout.

I thought Mayweather won quite handily & Rawlings wasn't that far off the mark TBH. As for Channel 5's coverage you would believe that Galahad is the best superbantamweight that ever walked the earth!

Yes very annoying, and during Garcia/Matthysse he confidently states "no one BUT NO ONE thought this would go 12..." whereas if he'd looked on here he'd have seen many boxing fans predicted just that. He's reading the wrong boxing forum ![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Carrot Cruncher anyone?
Re: John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
Crawling is an awful commentator.doesn't call the action has to rely on the excellent jones to keep him on track.and his scoring is as l ways dubious
Re: John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
Only really annoying bit for me was when, over a replay of a Canelo left hook, they said "that's the only shot he landed all round", then, when the next clip proved that wasn't true, they attempted to convince viewers it was the same shot from another angle -which it clearly wasn't.
Re: John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
I don't really get the hate for Rawling, ok he's not everyone's cup of tea but if it bothers you just turn the sound down.
I'd love to hear some of the people on here doing live commentary, it would be a complete chuckle fest.
I love Al Bernstein but every so often I disagree with something he says or don't "like" how he's backtracking or whatever but jeez...turn it down!
It's not like you can hear anything else anyway.

I turned the sound off in Round 3 or 4

What's Hatton doing these days? He's unusually quiet. I see they got his brother on last night as a one man boxing cliche machine.

We can only complain if we can do a better job on commentary? Absurd.
Turn the sound down? I want to hear the bloody fight.
Re: John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
What do you want to hear? Muffled slapping noises and crowds cheering punches that missed? Bizarre.
Re: John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
So if Alvarez throws 5 shots (in range) and misses with 4 Floyd is hittable?Horse wrote:Barry Jones was the same, pretending Mayweather avoided every shot from an Alvarez combo even after they have just shown at least one Alvarez shot clearly land cleanly in slow motion.

Exactly this. If Floyd rolls out the way and takes 90% on his gloves and arms but one shot manages to get through that means he's hittable? Then after that one shot he nails canelo with a plush 5 or 6 shot combo but somehow he still loses that exchange? Commentary was spot on last night. Especially Jones who was doing his very best to give Canelo a round but couldn't justify it because the better scoring shots came from Maywether every round

An Amir Khan Skype commentary ?orbtastic wrote:What do you want to hear? Muffled slapping noises

Re: John Rawling - Mayweather fanboy commentary
There's not a better defensive boxer in range and if Floyd is hittable then every other active boxer is a masochist.Horse wrote:Obviously.palooka wrote:So if Alvarez throws 5 shots (in range) and misses with 4 Floyd is hittable?
I think the only reason you respond in a couple of word is because your arguments are specious and have little basis, you also know if you put more down you'd be seen as a contrarian.

Stop trying to start petty arguments with me.palooka wrote:There's not a better defensive boxer in range and if Floyd is hittable then every other active boxer is a masochist.

Watched it in on the Mexican broadcast in a bar in Mexico. The channels own panel of experts had it a shut out in favour of Floyd. Every Mexican I spoke to had it near enough the same.
Floyd won wide.
