Glasgow 24th September.

Post by geoffburt07 »

St. Andrews Sporting club kicks off their new season next Tuesday night. There is a usual 3 fight bill.

Top if the bill is former British title challenger Kris Carslaw who will be boxing over 6x3s. Kris who will be aiming to keep himself busy this season already has another date in for Lagoon sports centre in October. Opponent has not been confirmed yet but kris and his team will be aim towards a British title shot after a few fights.

Also on the bill is Dundee's Ronnie Clark who returns to the raddison where he beat Dougie Curran in his last fight. Clark will be boxing polish import Krzysztof Rogowski who has a record of 5-3. Rogowski has never been stopped so Clark may be forced to go the full 6. Clark who will want to kick on to title fights knows he can't take this fight easily as it could be a bannana skin.

The first fight on the bill doesn't look great as far as quality is concerned but could be fireworks. Barry Craig takes on the tuff and game Ryan McNicol. Craig who is unbeaten will hope to continue his winning ways with a victory over McNicol. Ryan who is always on the Road will fancy this fight as craig hasn't looked great in his pro fights.

£120 is too much for me to pay for 3 fights but hope the show goes well. Best of luck to all involved.

Nice wee write up there!! I'm going should be a good night of boxing!! I think with these shows you pay for the night rather than just the boxing.. The last one was very good and worth the money hope this one is the same.. Kris Carslaw started his fighting career with Ronnie's trainer Lex Easdon in Kickboxing and Lex has moved over to continue his work with Ronnie in boxing sure both will come out with the "W". Not many times Ryan fights you think he may have a chance.. I think this one is a 50/50 fight neither will hold back!!! Team Clark

Can't see Carslaw getting put in with anyone decent. He's boxed Keiron Grey twice already, wouldn't be suprised if its him for third time. McNicol could get the win against barry. Really is 50/50 fight. Don't know much about Clarks opponent but here's hoping he gets the win.

Have a good night bud.

Cant say im a fan of these nights, all it does is give the boxers a bit of cash and fills Gilmours pockets. Does nothing for scottish boxing or progressing the fighters careers.

Interested to know why you think these are value for money David? Roughly i would say the boxing is worth £15ish. Food £40-50ish max. What does the other £50-60 get you?

I just think they are vastly overpriced. Its not that i wouldnt pay £120 for boxing but it would have to be a great card, World title fight etc.

I was quite against these nights as well to be honest. But I really enjoyed the last one.. They had a couple of speakers who were quite funny.. The food was very high standard. The fights the last time were really good! £120 is a bit steep for most people but Tommy does public shows as well and hopefully Ronnie will be on one soon. I have only been to 1 and will give honest opinion on this one

For 120 shekels you would certainly be wanting some good fights.

Im not keen on the dinner shows if im honest. Ill go as Ronnie is fighting but not that keen on it in general although I did enjoy the last one. It was also sold out last time so if Tommy has people who want to go to these fights then why would he not put them on. Hey billy as far as I know this fight is just to get some ring rust away from Ronnie and test out the hand to hopefully get him a bigger fight before the year is out. How is Ricky? hope he is good. Takes some balls to do what he did and glad sky covered some things in what you were saying to Ricky in the corner also. Top class to keep his mind on the job with a horrible injury:)

I'm guessing billy has looked at the kids record and weights his a small featherweight. Ronnies boxed all of his fights at lightweight bar his 2 title fights. Imo this fights is good for ronnie if their r doubts over his hand and lack of activity he can box and bully a smaller opponent and get a stoppage win. Then look at moving on into some 50-50 fights in a very good division. All the best to him

Maley- a 50-50 fight has to be agreed both partys and to many people not interested in it. Hopefully it changes as all divisions need to take a leaf out the lightweight division. this division is fantastic and seeing fights like Matthews- woodhouse- rhys v coyle- Matthews- crolla its great . I cant help but be disappointed in sky if im honest. They have a certain stable which is great but there missing out on the talent outside of matchroom. I know for myself about great talent in Scotland and how none of them are given the platform. Look at Maxi hughes when he fought cardle. the unknown fighters are the more exciting.

But the unknown fighters aren't as good as the fighters on the telly, watching a pub brawl entertains me, but I'd rather watch top quality fighters try to work each other out to get the win, rather than two fighters below title level going hell for leather and having a tear up.

I know wat your saying wasn't having a dig at ronnie for this fight as I said b4 its a good fight to shake the rust and doubts over his hand. I'm sure if offered he wud take on any lads in the division. Its a shame more fighters ay like that the 0 is to important to them. I think after this fight ronnie will b in a postion to push towards bigger fights and titles unbeaten after 11 right in the mix.

I don't agree at all that these fighters are any better. They just don't either have a following or a backer. Scott Cardle I would rather watch paint dry. Sure the amateur fighters have a good pedigree like stalker etc but im sorry id rather watch fighters such as chad gaynor, maxi hughes and gavin McDonnell fight any day of the week. Maley I knew you weren't having a dig mate we are quite honest with Ronnie and he needs to be stepping up now and he wants it as much as everyone else. He has a good set up around him now whereas hes willing to travel sparring and get more knowledge of boxing. Ronnie had like 5 amateur fighters. 3 of them in the same tournament in western districts and 2 shows. He has a good backing from people of Dundee and also has good sponsorship which allows him to train full time. Hopefully Tommy is going to pick the right fights even if we don't agree I guess hes a boxing man and kinda just need to see where it goes.

Cardle is boring, but he's a decent fighter who's capable of winning domestic titles, Hughes isn't at that level, as was seen when they fought.

fair enough mate but I don't agree, Where is hearn at when he puts cardle in a british title fight when luke Campbell is a few fights off it id say. Cardle wont go beyond domestic. That's just an opinion. And Could be wrong:) I can see hype about some fighters like Selby and Campbell are both excellent. One fighter who can cause an upset if he gets active is Davie Drummond from Dundee. Trust me this guy can bang. I don't know him personally but id like to see him mix it with the domestic cruiserweights:)

Jason Ball if you read his record has boxed many good fighters and gave them a hard time,he's one tough bastard so he is and David boxed excellently against him.i think Jason only got one shot of note off on him that's development mate.
Please do your homework and stop being blinded,Ronnie has fought better opponents 18 months ago so to fight this lad is a step back the way.
Do you know the meaning of the word development!

Billy, Ronnie can only fight what's put in front of him. In a ideal world he would like to be stepping it up but you know how hard it is to match Ronnie. I know how many fighters have turned down fights over the last couple of years. The only time he is offered any kind of decent fight is on a few days notice. I think he needs to keep winning and force himself into title contention. Jason Ball is one of the better journeymen and was the right fight for David development

Ronnie is also just coming back from a serious hand injury from his last fight against Douggie Curran back in June, this type of opponent is a good way to get back into the ring and see how the injury has healed before looking to take a more dangerous fight without knowing if his hand will last the distance.

So on your thinking will you be looking to have Ricky defend his title either in a rematch with Beltran or against another top class fighter because Ricky has boxed better opponents in the last 18 months?

I know there is a wee bit of history between you and Ronnie but it seems to me that you seem to jump on anything that happens in his career now, is that because you have a problem with Tommy Gilmour?

Billy my point is, you probs hadn't even saw this kid and you think it's a step back! You should know not to judge boxers ability without seeing them. Maybe I was a tad harsh on Brophy, ball is tuff and usually comes to fight. You just always seem to find negitive in other boxers managers or boxers themselfs if they ain't boxing out if your famous gym.

David I have no issues at all with Ronnie in fact I was asked to help train him for the Walsh fight before he got injured.
However I don't like have very much time for Tommy, he tries to manipulate people and he couldn't do that with me at one point and it seems to be a sore point for him. Many folk have told me he bad mouths me but eh I must be doing something right for him to do that and that makes me happy :OhYes: :OhYes:
I've done well in boxing without Tommy Gilmour in my life and that's the way it will continue, let's be honest David if people who work with him say things to his face rather than behind his back you'd find he really isn't a popular man at all

I'm sure that like you and I, Tommy isn't in this business to be liked. He is in this business to make money for him and his fighters, picking up titles along the way.

I'm not in professional boxing for the fame or the money but to help look after young kids and try to help them reach the levels they can without being used by the horrible people you can meet in this business, and there are lots of people looking for their share off the back of young kids who may not have the right team behind them to know who is really trying to look after them.
