Don't remember Ali grinding his hips at anyone. Anyway Hamed's behaviour is way beyond showmanship - he is arrogant and disrespectful to plenty of other fighters in interviews.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Like Muhammad Ali you mean?headhunter wrote:when a fighter rolls his hips over a downed opponent and basically badmouths every opponent he`s ever had its a bit rich for him to expect in return the thing he didnt give anyone else........respectjamesmcdonnell wrote:That's rather disrespectful. It's just showmanship.....don't take it all at face value.
I am not talking of him as a fighter (I believe he was one of our best) but as a man, and he has not earned widespread respect in this arena.
And his comments implying that non-muslims are OK to hit but not muslims hardly makes him likeable.
And yes, though he gave the British public some exciting nights, we upheld our part of the deal by paying him a load of money!

It always annoys me when people compare Hamed to Ali... when Ali took the mickey he did it in a funny way with a twinkle in his eye... with Hamed there has never been any humour just self regarding arrogance and a strong streak of cruelty... the man has no class. You only need to see how Hamed treated Brendan Ingle to see the true nature of the man...
I was a fan of Hamed early in his career but he turned me off with the arrogance etc. For instance the way he ridiculed and taunted Vincent Belacastro in their fight was totally out of order and should really have got Hamed disqualified imo. It went far beyond anything Ali ever did to any of his opponents including Terrell. The truth is that Ali was and is a classy guy both in and out of the ring while Hamed was really a arrogant little man with a nasty side to him. Read about his confrontation with Chris Eubank at an airport for an example of what he's like.KOJOE90 wrote:I was a Hamed fan, but a lot of his post and pre-fight interviews really used to get on my nerves, he came across as arrogant at times and lacked the charisma to do 'an Ali'.
I also really hated that ringwalk he did when he was knocking over those tombstones. Very poor taste.
Also his alleged actions connected to his recent driving exploits don't show him in a very savoury light. Indeed I am rather suspicious about all this 'come back' talk at this time when he could be in real trouble... it wouldn't surprise me if the two are connected somehow......
Hmmm, that's a bit rose tinted.silkov wrote:The truth is that Ali was and is a classy guy both in and out of the ring.
I'm not sure how Ali's "The white man is the devil" stance would go down today. Most of his anti-white stuff in the Parkinson interview probably wouldn't even get broadcasted today, yet people look back fondly on interviews like that because it's from "The Greatest".
Class in the ring though, I agree with.

But he's long since moved on from that stance... and even during his early days he was always friendly with white people generally... Angelo Dundee wasn't black was he!...
A class fighter, Ali. But a horrible man.Priff wrote:Hmmm, that's a bit rose tinted.silkov wrote:The truth is that Ali was and is a classy guy both in and out of the ring.

I don't see how you can say he is or was a horrible man?... I'm not saying he was perfect but from what I've read and heard about him from people who have met him and also known him on a long term basis he is a very good guy who would do anything for someone and over the years has done a lot of good for a lot of people.KO Atrist wrote:A class fighter, Ali. Yeah, but Frazier said his fair share of things too. I agree Ali went over the top with some of the things he said to Frazier but in the years since he has been big enough to issue a number of public apologies to Frazier, while Frazier on the other hand has gone on to say very vindictive and cruel things about Ali and really has lost any moral high ground he had over Ali years ago.knockout wrote:the whole Uncle Tom bit to Joe Frazier crossed the line....sure pre fight hype is all good... but there are certain places you dont go..... and that is one of them

Truth is, none of it is, er that black and white ( if you will pardon the expression )
Ali was/is a decent man capable of stepping over the line ( the Frazier thing is a perfect example ) and being a vile tosser
Naz, from my own experience, is a decent guy capable of extraordinary arrogance and also capable of sensitivity and generosity both towards his family and others of his faith or otherwise
it's too easy to judge based on a public persona. Let he who is without sin etc etc and I am as culpable of that as anyone

Yeah, like how he teated Frazier well, or had numerous extra marital affairs. Or expressed ani white views. What a class guysilkov wrote:I don't see how you can say he is or was a horrible man?... Naz and Ali, like many people in the public eye, had public and private personas which are probably very different.
Ali went through a real transformation in his life, from young upstart, radical muslim, civil rights activist to peace ambassador. Ali himself admits that as a young man he was intolerant, and has even apologised for the things he said to Frazier amongst others.
Ali did say a lot of terrible things, but a lot of them were to sell tickets. I forget who it was he fought, but it was a white fighter, and Ali tried to get him to call him a person at the pre-fight press conference, just to sell tickets.
Hamed is nowhere near as complex a figure I dare say, but to take his ring antics, especially in the heat of the moment at face value is probably not too wise.
I've never met the man, but those I know who have said that he was entirely di

Very true. Ali could be as mean spirited as the next guy when it came down to it - dropped his "mentor" Malcolm X like a hot potato when told to by Elijah M ( some loyalty there! ) and his Uncle Tom jibes to the undeserving Joe Frazier was completely OTT ( the relative middle class Ali, calling the dirt poor, blue collar Joe an uncle tom was beyond belief )KO Atrist wrote: Yeah, like how he teated Frazier well, or had numerous extra marital affairs. Then the brutal beat down of Terell ( what's my name?! ) was bullying & humiliation of the highest order.
The two have much in common in this respect to be honest.
But in terms of talent - Ali & Naz? Forget about it!!
PS: And have to say, I'm a big fan of Naz, and reckon P4P, he's the biggest "raw" talent the UK has ever had.

mmm not sure what to make of that statement.
That's what that statement means.
