Scottish independance in boxing .
With Scottish government people wanting to become independant , how will that effect boxing , Obviously the British title would no longer be available for Scots , but id assume they would first have to establish a boxing board of their own , so it could mean we get Non Brits holding British titles which could then open all sorts of silly doors to other foreign boxers through legal loopholes .
Im sure its not just boxing that will be effected in this way either .

Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
Why would it change? Britain isn't a country, it's a name of an island no?
Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
My understanding is that the British Boxing Board of Control is the governing body of professional boxing in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. As you point out, Scottish independence would not change the fact that Scotland lies on the island of Great Britain. However, it would mean the country was no longer part of the United Kingdom. In other words, unless my interpretation of the BBBC's jurisdiction is incorrect, boxers from an independent Scotland would be on their own.dohboy wrote:Why would it change? Possibly the Scottish title would no longer be an area title, which it shouldn't be and move on to the same level as the English title.Aden wrote:My understanding is that the British Boxing Board of Control is the governing body of professional boxing in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. As a scottish boxing fan , and Yes man i have wondered this. However i wonder if the British Title could still be foguth for by Scots? Technically Scotland will still fall within the British Isle's ? Can Isle of Man fighters fight for the British title?damianhucker1 wrote:With Scottish government people wanting to become independant , how will that effect boxing , Obviously the British title would no longer be available for Scots , but id assume they would first have to establish a boxing board of their own , so it could mean we get Non Brits holding British titles which could then open all sorts of silly doors to other foreign boxers through legal loopholes .

I would imagine, that current Area council ,would be the successor to a Board of Control up here, as they have all the infrastructure/staff in place, but that is just an opinion
Also as for a similer situation with Luxemburg Boxing board of control that we have seen down south, i dont think that could apply as it stands Scotland wouldent be part of the EU as the RUK (rest of the UK) would be the successor state . So Freedom of Trade might not apply as we would be out.
Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
sorry to pick at it mate, but the Term United Kingdom refers to the both crowns of Scotland and england. As it stands that wouldent change, and Northern Ireland is not in Great Britain either- but there fighters can figth for the title.Aden wrote:My understanding is that the British Boxing Board of Control is the governing body of professional boxing in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. not being obtuse mate, just pointing out as i see it.

Wouldn't it change though? The Queen would still be the head of state, so technically Queen of Scotland, but the crowns would no longer be combined as they are in the union, Scotland would be like Australia or Canada, just a lot closer.Alba wrote:sorry to pick at it mate, but the Term United Kingdom refers to the both crowns of Scotland and england. Good Question, the union of the Crowns was in 1603 , the union of the parliaments wasent until 1707 mate. The Crowns are head of states, but in the case of Scotland /England there two different kingdoms mate. A good example is Prince William is the Duke of Cambridge in England, and the duke of Rothsey in Scotland.expe wrote:Wouldn't it change though? Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
No worries, I'm well capable of misunderstanding as I do find it all a bit confusing.
The question is: "Should Scotland be an independent country?"
Whilst it seems paradoxical, as it stands, the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland is a sovereign state comprising four countries England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. A 'yes' vote would make Scotland independent of that existing sovereign state; it would become an sovereign state in its own right, is that correct?
Maybe, in the event of a 'yes', the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland will have to change its name to e.g. The United Kingdom of England, Wales & Northern Ireland?

Out of curiousity, as a Scot, do you think it will happen? Independence that is.Alba wrote:to answer your question mate , i think the RUK proberly would become that name you suggested.Aden wrote:No worries, I'm well capable of misunderstanding as I do find it all a bit confusing.

Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
i will put my cards on the table mate, i am very Pro it. I follow it quite closely and i do think the tide is turning, most people are genuinly intrested and the line i hear is "I want to know more" and i think once people find out what is possible and what can be achieved they will move over. Yes the polls will tell you different but i take that with a pinch of salt to be honest. If it dosent happen this time, then i dont think it will happen for a while .columbo wrote:Out of curiousity, as a Scot, do you think it will happen? Haha. I'm Scottish and it's obvious that the Engerlish want rid.Aden wrote:I'm English and I'm all for it. I hope you get what you want.
But the sensible Scottish folk cannot be fooled by Mr Alex "change the currency from the pound to Star Bars" fat boy Salmond.
It will be a resounding naw this time next year, and we can put all this rubbish behind us.

Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
Is it possible for us English to set up a pre-emptive vote and get rid of the Scotch before they have the chance to decide anything themselves?
Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
The one thing that has gotten me about the whole thing is just how negative the campaign for Scotland to stay in the union has been. I don't mind which way it goes personally, I just find the strategy of telling everybody how shit it would be a strange tactic.
Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
I don't see the need for Scotland getting independent status they are a different country everyone knows it sport I don't care about but imports exports money and financial stuff yeah
Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
Trust me. There is absolutely no chance of Scotland voting for independence. All opinion polls have those for independence at 30% or less. I have yet to meet ANYONE who is going to vote for it. I am a proud Brit and Scot. And in my opinion Britain consists of England, Scotland , Wales and Northern Ireland and anyone who tries to say differently is splitting hairs.
Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
He was right about Great Britain/Britain, it is a term that exclusively means the landmass containing England, Scotland and Wales. Scotland can never leave Britain even if they vote for independence, just the UK.
Re: Scottish independance in boxing .
As much as there's rivalries between our countries in sport and so on it would be sad if we split. Surely we're stronger together.
