How far could Mayweather go?

Post by doctorboxing »

Starting out fighting at around 130lbs, he now looks to be the number 1 in the light middleweight divison. As a hypothetical, in his next fight, at what weight/fighter do you think he would come unstuck against?

Around 140-150
Bradley
Garcia
Khan
Pacquiao
Broner

Middleweight
Martinez
Golovkin
Barker
Sturm

Super Middle
Ward
Froch
Kessler
Stieglitz
Groves
DeGale

Light Heavy
Hopkins
Stevenson
Kovalev
Bellew
Cleverley

154 is about his max limit, he knows he can't get to involved trading with the bigger men.

He could probably fight at a higher weight and win but it wouldn't be good to watch.

Everyone 140-150, everyone at middle except GGG, not really worth talking about any higher than that except I'm sure he would whip degales arse

He is about 5ft8inch so I reckon as far he could got will be 11 stone 6lbs without giving too much away in terms of height and reach, but I reckon he will stay around 10 stone 7lbs- 11 stone for the remainder of his career.

I reckon he beats Froch and Arthur Abraham if he wants to.

I reckon if he put his mind to it he could bear Wladimir as well. He might be shorter and lighter but is certainly faster and has a better chin.

I think Golovkin is as far as he will go then the likes of Bradley, Alexander, Khan and Garcia are all contenders.

I think he would beat everyone up to middleweight, with the Golovkin fight being a genuine 50:50 fight where he might well get KO'd but I still wouldn't bet against him.

At super-middle, I would pick him to beat Stieglitz and pick up a world title. It's crazy to say but he would have a real chance against any of the super middles.

To KO him to have to hit him!

If he got hit off a middleweight the way Cotto tagged him he would get knocked out.

I don't think Froch lays a glove on him all night unless Mayweather tires late on.

I bet he could beat Audley Harrison right now, 1 hand behind his back.

In my eyes he beats everyone up to 154.

At 160 the GGG fight is probably far too unrealistic but a fight against Barker would be interesting. Barker has good skills so could land a few good shots that would cause problems.

Barker has no chance of beating Mayweather or even landing many punches on him, he's just not good enough, fighters like Hatton, Marquez, Cotto, De La Hoya have fought Mayweather and lost, Marquez while losing more or less every round, Barker just isn't in the same class.

The guy is a naturally small man. He shouldnt be going above 154 IMO.

The problem is that's he's so good, there's no one below 11st that remotely tests him, so for fights to be competitive he'd have to move to middleweight, where he would be at a size disadvantage.

I think theres no doubt he could move up to MW,obviously you wouldnt want him to stand his ground but thats not his style anyway and the bigger you go the slower the fighters are generally,i dont think anyone other than Golovkin and maybe Martinez would be able to land a glove on Mayweather so as long as he could make the weight theres no doubt he can join the super 6 league and i would bet theres a few SMWs he could beat also

When I started writing it, I thought he could beat some middles but when I think about it, I could see him beating the likes of DeGale at super-middle and possibly even some of the best super middles. I was curious to to see if anyone would give him a hope against anything higher than that.

As for heavyweight. Could Mayweather have beaten Valuev? Sounds crazy but I wouldn't be 100% convinced Valuev could have caught him.
