Aaron Pryor vs Roberto Duran@ 140lbs(In their primes)
Aaron Pryor vs Roberto Duran@ 140lbs(In their primes)
At 140lbs,who would win this fight?I think Pryor's only advantage in this fight would be his speed & mobility. He had a good, solid chin, but Duran at this weight was still a brutal puncher.Pryor's best chance would be to move and TRY to outbox Duran,BUT, Duran was an excellent boxer.I don't think Pryor could hurt Duran, but I know that Duran could hurt Pryor. And Pryor was too proud of a Champion to spend the whole fight moving, and boxing. He would try to outfight Duran, even if he knew it was not in his best interest, due to his character, and tough mental attitude.I don't know if Duran would stop him,but I do think he would beat him up.Duran by unanimous decision,

I too, see a Duran unanimous decision in this one. I think he just a little too much, even for someone as good as Pryor.
If Pryor elected to stick & move, then I might favour him, but I couldn't see Pryor doing that.
Pryor was indeed exciting to watch, and we could all watch him get pulped by Duran. This would be a good fight but Aaron could not find enough substances to abuse to find his way to the final bell in this go round. And if he did happen to make it to the final bell he probably would have wished he hadn't.

brockton...believe me..... this i know as fact...pryor would not have gotten into the ring, period. no way.
plus..i think prime duran was 135..not 140....but no matter what weight.....pryor WOULD NOT HAVE FOUGHT HIM!!!
oh dear ...here i am on a pryor thread again, when i promised myself long ago i wouldn't be. where is tomato can? whny doesn't he stop me?

Roberto Duran did not fade until he hit 154-160 and was nearly 40.
He skipped the 140 weight class because
a) He couldn't make the weight
b) After destroying everyone at 135 and finfing nobody at 140 good enough he opted for 147.
Duran at 140 was just too good for anything Pryor had. People keep throwing up Arguello here. The Thin Man was passed his best when he reached 140. As a Feather, Super Feather and even a Lightweight Arguello was outstanding, but the step up to meet Pryor at the end of his career was asking too much.
Duran IMO would have given Aaron his head on a plate very similar to what he did to "Pipino " Cuevas

I don't think there would be any fight getting Pryor into the ring with Duran, even if Pryor would lose he wouldn't fear any fighter.Jaclem wrote:...as i have written before, and really shouldn't again..nbut the tempatation is too strong:
The toughest fight would be with the five guys it would take to get pryor into the ring with duran.
this
With Pryor's speed and throwing lots of punches but little defense, I can see Duran dodging alot of those punches and getting to Pryor's body. This plan would slow down Pryor's offense and start leaving him open for Duran's own offense. Duran could definitely have him down in the middle rounds.

Pryor was one of those fighters who's style proved to be troublesome due to the unconventional aspect of it. I know you could point out alot of technical imperfections with pryor, but I think that is what kept his opponents of balance. He seemed to have a certain athletisism about him. I say he would consistently beat Duran to the punch and find a way to win. Pryor's wide assortment of punches would help him also. I just liked him becuase he was innovative.
Look on his so called finest performance against the robotic flat footed punchbag Arguello (which he was) Pryor was tagged continuously all night. Fair enough he did outscore Alexis and eventually KO him, but if Alexis could do that, I dare to think what the faster, busier, stronger, tougher, 'bigger', better chinned, better defensive Duran could do...Pryor is in fo a nightmare, barrages of stronger crisper punches and a guy that he won't be able to hit half as easy as the predictable Alexis......

Aguello is better than that description. No doubt Pryor would take a few, but he would land more than he took. Duran would get caught with a lot of punches as he was walking in and looking to tie up. Pryor would not give him that chance. Pryor was sneaky and would hit Duran from all angles. I think he would have the style to beat Duran.
