Trying to get back to topic here.
In 1962 the NBA changed to the WBA. After that I believe the WBC emerged because they deemed the U.S. had too big an influence on boxing. After that we got the IBF, WBO & who knows what else. Not only do they not recognize each others champions but contenders as well.
One guy is listed as #1 in one organization. The other doesn't have him listed period, even #10. Payoffs are the name of the day. It was cleaner when Mr. Gray was running things from cell block 88. Thank God for the Ring. I wish they would be more pro-active, though. Stop the insanity.

Re: The Good old days
What would solve this situation is if you had high profile fighters who would refuse to fight until a title unification bout was set up. This would force the hand of the people who are pulling the strings behind the scenes.bill.lockhart wrote:Trying to get back to topic here.

old days
Fighters were so much more busy in the past, fighting several times per year. With all the noise about how fighters nowadays are supposed to be such better athletes than in the past, why aren't they fighting more often than they currently are?
I know there's some fighters staying busy out there, but that's far from bieng the standard. Title holders should be forced to fight the top contenders 2 or 3 times per year. Unification bouts could be held yearly.
