Hamed can regain crown - Steward

Legendary trainer Emanuel Steward wants to help former charge Naseem Hamed regain his world championship crown.
Sheffield's former world featherweight champion Hamed, 31, is proposing a return to the ring next year following more than three years out of boxing.
Steward said: "I would definitely consider working with him. If we could agree on the method of his training I would not pass that up. I've only got fond memories of him. He can be world champion again."

Steward, who also trained Thomas Hearns and Lennox Lewis at his renowned Kronk Gym in Detroit, handled Hamed between 1999 and 2001.
The pair parted company following Hamed's first and only defeat at the hands of Marco Antonio Barrera and accusations from Steward that Hamed had been neglecting training.

But Steward says he is still on good terms with Hamed and that, with careful management, they could plot a course towards another world title.

Steward said: "It has to be done properly and delicately. A lot of guys come back but they don't come back the proper way, they rush into it. And you have to be careful about the opponents.
"It depends on how he's going to approach training. When he did train he trained extremely well, he's a good trainer.

"For the Barrera fight he was training without sparring because the other trainer [co-trainer Oscar Suarez] had him convinced he didn't have to do that.
"If he trains hard, I don't think it will take him more than three months (to be ready)."

In contrast, former world champion Barry McGuigan believes Hamed should shelve plans to return to the ring.
McGuigan told BBC Radio Five Live: "My advice to Naseem is to stay retired and enjoy your life.
"It's very difficult to go back and recapture that hunger again. He can maybe get into shape but it is a different thing being fighting fit.
"He earned a fortune, he has a safe amount of money and has a comfortable existence."

Why would Naz want him back, the guy is a fraud and it was him who screwed him up the first palce.

Wasn't Steward only a sort of consultant trainer though? That little portly latin bloke was in charge of most of the day to day training was my understanding of it.

Anybody read what he’d said in regard to Muslim boxers?

He says its against his `principles` to ever fight another Muslim, modern day Britain and still you have ignorant bigots like him who see a mans religion before the actual man.
The scourge in the civilised society was once the colour of a mans skin, in the last 50yrs its slowly being eradicated, now scum-bags like Hamed use religion to discriminate against people.
Isn’t this similar to how those scum-bags who set off the 7/7 bombs in London thought?

Hamed is and always will be a low-life scum bag, shame his brain wasn’t as big as his ears.

He should stay the f---k away from boxing.

Well to be fair to him, it does say in the Quran that no Muslim shall harm another, is he racist or just following the rule book?

Pakistan and Turkey are both Muslim countries yet still have good boxers, No bigotry involved there, they see a boxer as a boxer, and boxing as a sport.
