It think this is the only world heavyweight champ Jones could beat. Maybe Jim Braddock, actually...
anyway, who do u pick? I see Ruiz eating canvas early, coming back to floor Patterson in the middle and closing the fairly exciting show in the 11th.
thoughts?
and yes pat I know this should be in the past section but its not working on my computer
John Ruiz- Floyd Patterson
I don't think that Patterson was really a natural heavyweight. Floyd could have been a great light heavyweight IMO. If Patterson could have gotten a shot at the light heavyweight title (he was number 1 contender in that division in 1955 at the age of 20), then he might have been light heavy champ for a dozen years or so.
Actually, Floyd Patterson may have held the heavyweight title for 10 years or so if Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay/Muhammad Ali were not around. I don't think that there was anyone else around that could beat him, except for Johansson, once. Of course, Frazier came along later, but Patterson probably would have been retired by then.
