Light heavyweight Southern area title

Hi all I haven't been on here in a while but just jumped on to see what we've all been talking about and thought I'd post about my next fight.

I'm up against leon senior on the 20th sept in Gillingham for the southern area title he holds.

Training is going great and I can't wait for it now. Anyone interested in coming let me know on here.

Good luck Woody, I like the Area titles as they have a bit of history about them. The Southern area title has been held by people such as Dennis Andries and Chris Finnegan.

Absolutely buzzing for this mate would mean a lot to take an area belt back to my little village :-) I feel I can go beyond area level but for many this is as good as it gets and when I turned pro realistically I aimed at area title as a minimum. Could open up some decent opportunities aswell as long as I do the business in the way I plan to.

Leon senior I believe was a decent am only losing out to Egan he boxed over here losing out on a scrappy contest to the IMO great Danny happe which made tony burns pull him out in facing degale in his next fight.
This should be a good fight! I fancy senior on pts feel he will have to much pedigree in a close contest. Not writing your chances off woody be a great scalp if you take it son!

Thanks hurlock really appreciate the input I want people to realise that this is a fight I have to go and win. A lot of people I have spoken to whether they are being nice or other are underestimating senior I've watched him a few times and he's definitely a class act. Although I know I've got what it takes to go and take the title from him.

Still in 2 minds about going this, Johnny Garton who I've been following is on the bill, for a British Masters title I think. Just a cost issue at the moment though

Dan lost to Leon Senior on points. Hope Dan can come back as he is a really nice guy. We help to look after Miles Shinkwin and Senior is very much on our radar!!!

97-94 It was a good close fight but Dan never seemed to get going, Senior boxed a tough well thought out fight and deserved the decision, hopefully there's a re-match. Lewis Pettitt beat James Speight 97-95 to win the Southern area super Bantam title in a nice all action fight.

Maybe the occasion got to Dan a bit, he can take it as a good learning experience and move forward again.

Yep it really was, a bit of a chess match but interesting and entertaining. I'm a bit gutted actually I talk to Dan quite often and he really is one of boxing's nice guys. Agree with what Ian says, he will move forward and come again.

Don't really know what went wrong to be honest when the final bell went I was pretty confident I'd got the nod was gutted in went to senior and thought the score of 97-94 was a disgrace makes it sound like I wasn't in the fight. From my support to neutrals to seniors support I've heard so many different opinions on the rounds but one thing stands out every time no one thought I'd lost by 3 rounds.

I remember thinking to myself in round 9 that I was surprised senior wasn't trying harder as I thought I was clearly winning.

Everyone sees it differently but I had some support on his side of the ring and after the fight his team were heard to say "I think he's got that" meaning me.

Was absolutely devastated after the fight having put in so much time and effort and to be defeated on what I thought was a wrong decision. The fight was close and was definitely a good fight. I actually remember thinking to myself that in some rounds Ian john Lewis wasn't seeing some of the work I was doing inside so perhaps that's where I went wrong not being clean enough. One thing I will say is in round 3 I laughed at him as I went back to my corner because he actually didn't lay a glove on me. I felt only 2 proper punches in the whole fight and they came in round 7 other than that you should see the state of my arms all swollen and battered cos that's where he was hitting me most. It may not have looked as clean on the outside but I know what I felt and I'm always 100% honest with myself I won that fight in my eyes although I thought they were going to side with him and give it a draw. Me and my corner were supremely confident in the fact that I'd won. I don't think it's a terrible decision definitely seen a lot worse and I could see how you could make a case for leon winning but not in my eyes I felt the punches that were landing and I know I had him rocked on more than one occasion.

Hats off to senior he is a very good fighter and deserves respect and that I give him, he's a nice guy and a good fighter.

I've asked for a Rematch, don't think it will happen but you can't but try.

Just absolutely gutted. I said before the fight if I didn't win I'd hang my gloves up. I think I deserve another shot tho so back in the gym as soon as my bruises are healed and I'll start working on the next fight.

You always conduct yourself very well Dan, it is just how I saw the fight. I really wanted you to win and along with your vast support was willing you on. I went to Phil's fight last night and spoke to somebody who was obviously part of the Hellraiser team and was at the show in Gillingham and noticed me from there, he asked how comes I was at both show's and I said I went to see you friday night, to which he replied 'I think your guy should have got the nod', so I can well believe how so many had you winning that fight. I saw Joel McIntyre fight last night at light heavy, if you can't get a re-match with Leon Senior, that'd be a good fight. Hopefully I'm back when your fighting again, that's if you want me at your fights, your 0-2 with me in attendance, maybe I shouldn't come

Lol its always a pleasure having you there mate i came to find you after the fight but you had obviously left. Yeah I don't think there was much in it either way to be honest and like I say I can see how people made an argument for senior.

I really don't want this to come across like I'm disrespecting him or am saying it all in desperation for a Rematch obviously I want it but senior has to do what he thinks is right for his career.

Whatever he does I wish him all the best. He was a proper tough guy and I have no excuse as to why I didn't win it more clearly and rip the title from him. I suppose you could say that because he is the champion I didn't do enough to take it off him.

I don't do superstition yid and your more than welcome to come and see me win next time out
