Johnny Greaves 100th,

Post by ianburbedge »

The legend that is Johnny Greaves makes his 100th and final appearance at the York Hall on Sunday 29th, if you're a true boxing fan and can get there you should be there.
Johnny has done so much for British boxing and deserves a great send off. I've been with him when he's taken a fight at an hour's notice and gone home to get his kit and come back to the venue and borrowed my gum shield, and then moaned that it didn't fit, it's things like this that show the character of the man, that he'll take a fight like that, mad, maybe, but no one can deny what great entertainment, especially winding up every crowd he's been in front of, grit, determination and value for money he's provided right across the country.
It's easy to say in two or three weeks time even in years to come I wish I'd have gone to that one, so come on people if you can get to the York Hall next Sunday, get there, I'm honoured to say I'll be working his corner, I'm equally honoured to call Johnny, his brother Frank and team mates Jason and Eddie, my friends and whether I was working the corner or not I'd be there, because this man deserves the boxing public to show their thanks.

Is it definitely the last one for Johnny ? If so I hope he will stay in the game in some capacity

I have to concur,You are the lifeblood of the pro game and what you have done over the years is provide our prospects with vital rounds and experience which is needed for development. You should be very proud of your achievements,For you to have never been KO`d or been stopped on the mat is a accolade to your durability,Top man in my book (and seen you live a few time) and wish you well in the future either in or outside the game. :TU:

I'm definitely not going anywhere.i love the game. & the people involved in it. I think me and frank can help a few fighters & maybe one day get into management and with a couple of backers maybe put on a show & see how we get on.i always have people & twitter trolls slagging me & my record so its nice to hear from people on here who understand my job.it means a lot to me that you guys appriciate what is journeymen do.i made a lot more of myself in this role & boxed boys & on shows I never would have being the ticket seller.i was never great but knew I could push on thru the pain.even as a kid,I'd keep coming.if you didn't nail me down !

Congratulations Johnny, seems like every show I've been to in recent years you've been on the card somewhere.

Good luck and thanks for the memories.

Johnny we've only ever had brief chats whenever we've met but I appreciate massively what guys like yourself do to for this sport.

We'll done in your career mate and all the best in whatever you do after.

I think all the promoter's who's shows you've been on over the years should buy you a nice present for your services.

Good luck Sun mate unfortunately I'm away in Paris so won't make it.
