A guy named Octavio Lara makes his pro debut in Detroit tomorrow night. His trainer is Emanuel Steward. Steward seems to think that the kid has the potential to be as good as Tommy Hearns. I don't know what his record is, or what amateur awards (golden gloves, etc.) that he has won. I just know that he is supposed to be good. I think that Lara is 18 years old and is fighting at about 130 lbs., or super featherweight.

Speaking of Hearns, his son is fighting on the undercard. I think that I read that Hearns' son is making his amateur debut.

Lara won his pro debut with a 3rd round TKO last night.

Ronnie Hearns, son of Tommy Hearns, knocked out his opponent in the 1st round (actually a TKO. The fight was stopped after Hearns' opponent was knocked down twice). It was Hearns 2nd amateur fight, as opposed to his debut as previously reported.

Juan McPherson is the best amateur fighter in the world, IMHO. I've seen him fight a few times and he's simply astonishing. The Last fight I've heard of McPHerson losing ws in 2002 in the Everlast Challenge where he lost a close decision to Rondale Mason. Another semi-local guy I've seen fight a few times who is very very good both locally and internationally is Devin Vargas. I've also seen Mickey Bey Jr, but he's plagued by legal troubles and inconsistancy.

Brien Gillen of Ireland is very skilled as well as is Michael Kelly.

Julius Fogle is another great US amateur that I've seen a few times.

Dutch Windmill will be the man to tank all the SuperMiddle bums. I can't wait to see his massive reign. He says he wears short shorts too, like the old days... then we can all see his massive... oh wait, that's a different story. Maybe another time.

I was 198lbs today, slightly over the supermiddle limit. There is no other choice than competing at -91kg.....

As for my massive upper legs, i just do lots of squats.

Post by boxer0119 »

Buy weight the guys that should rep the US in Athens 2004.

106. Rayonta Whitfield, Augusta, Ga.
112. Ron Siler, Cincinnati, Ohio
119. Torrence Daniels, Fort Carson, Colo./Army
125. Mickey Bey, Cleveland, Ohio
132. Karl Dargan, Philadelphia, Pa.
141. Keith Mason, Fort Carson, Colo./Army; Lamont Peterson, Washington, D.C. Rock Allen, Philadelphia, Pa. This weight class is very deap with Peterson being the strongest now but Rock and Keith are not far behind.
152. Juan McPherson, Cleveland, Ohio or Andre Berto, Winter Haven, Fla. (2003 World Championship bronze medalist) McPherson being the strongest of the two.
165. Andre Dirrell, Flint, Mich. unless Andre Ward decides to move back down then it's up in the air.
178. DeAndrey Abron, Fort Carson, Colo./Army or Andre Ward.. Abron being the strongest of the two.
201. Devin Vargas, Toledo, Ohio But after seing Charles Leverette beat him up in this Pan Am camp He's right there also
201+ Jason Estrada, Providence, R.I.

Trust me these are buy far the US's strongest boxers in each weight class..

I agree with boxer but you can't leave out the 2002 National Champ at 165 Julius Fogle and 112's Blanco Benitez are both good choices. Politics will play a big part in those choices though.

From Bolton in England there is a young lad, 16 years old i think, named Amir Khan. This boy is CLASS. He could be the new Naz, although he is better schooled. He is already the European Champion for his class and beat everyone in front of him when he went to America. As long as he gets better funding from Sport England he will win an Olympic Medal. A gold one at that !

Amir Khan boxes nothing like Naseem Hamed, I know this for a fact. Also, he is very good, but this is as a junior, what will he be like when he steps up to the senior level?
