Okay I've seen both fights on the show last night. I have this to say :
Glenn McCrory must be on the Calzaghe Christmas card list. He stated that Lacy is an 'opponent' for Calzaghe. What? Eh Glenn on last night's, and indeed the last 2 fights of both fighters, Lacy would KILL Joe.
Calzaghe hasn't fought anyone halfway decent in years and is struggling against the bum of the month club. He is also 32 or 33 and doens't seem to have the hunger anymore.
Lacy is built like a brick shit house, has a devestating overhand right, killer instincts and is wiping out everyone they put in front of him at the moment. I admitt he hasn't fought anyone as recognised as Calzaghe but on the evidence of the last year Lacy wins this and wins it big for me.
On the Mabuzu - Marquez fight I must admitt I was surprised. On the current scene board almost everyone picked the South African and even when the result was in they were still deluding themselves that Mabuzu was the better man. I mean come on. Marquez would have destroyed Mabuzu in the first if the knockdown had happened 10 seconds earlier. Mabuzu was good and pretty flash but hardly landed a telling blow whilst at times Marquez was having target practice on the South African's face.
I think in a rematch it will be another painfull night for Silence. Marquez hits too hard and essentially belongs in a class above.

Man, Lacy is being way overrated. Fact is Lacy was being outboxed by Omar Sheika. Robin Reid was done as a top contender and put on a horrible performance previously against Brian Magee. Pemberton was their for the purse and nothing more. If Calzaghe is in top shape he should box Lacy's head off. Also LOL at one of the pundits saying Lacy is an "accurate puncher" like fornicate he is, he's clubbing guys to the canvas ala Samuel Peter...

The difference is that these bad opponents are getting taken out in style by Lacy whilst Calzaghe nearly gets knocked out by Kabary Saleem and can't put away tiny Middleweight Evans Ashira.
Reid's performance wasn't horrible in my opinion. He decked Magee 4 times and beat a top 15 rated fighter well on points in his backyard. Against Lacy he got totally bushwhacked from start to finish and was decked about 3 times and took a hiding. Nobody had done anything remotely like that to Robin before.
'Clubbing'.......okay. At least he's putting guys away with them. I'd rather watch that than Joe and his amazing chocolate fists pitter patter against complete unknowns for 12 bored as hell rounds. Now thats what I call horrible.
I also have to take issue with your comment that Sheika 'outboxed' Lacy in their fight. It was a much more competative bout than expected for sure and was indeed pretty entertaining but in the end up it wasn't close on the cards and I don't remember anyone ever having a problem with that. Indeed from the mid rounds on it was pretty much one way traffic in favour of Lacy.
The thing is that Lacy is willing to fight and indeed is fighting often. Calzaghe though has pulled out of fights with Glenn Johnson, Syd Vanderpool (who Lacy beat in eight) and then against Lacy himself. And in the ring I've seen enough of Joe in complete crap against the likes of David Starie, Ricky Thornberry, Miguel Jimmenez, Kabary Saleem and Evans Ashira to last a lifetime. And don't forget the ridiculous matchups with Branco Sobot, Juan Carlos Gimmenez, Will McIntyre, Tocker Pudwill and the Veit rematch. No entertainment. No excitement. No ambition. I won't miss him.

Robin Reid imo lost every round to Brian Magee in which he didn't knock him down. And a few of the knockdowns where dodgy, as well as Magee having a point taken away in the first for a phantom low blow...
Shieka, a career slugger for part of their fight outboxed Lacy, and appeared to hurt him at one point. Calzaghe is a lot faster than Sheika and I think he would be able to tee off on Lacy and maybe stop him. Lacy's last few opponents have been afraid to take his punches and have fought scared. He hits hard, but he's no ko puncher.

Listen fuckface, my point stands, he still wasn't able to stop Ashira, whether that is due to a broken hand or not is irrelevant, do you think Lacy cares whether Calzaghe isn't landing hard shots because he has a broken hand or not?DE-LA-HOYA wrote:he broke his hand you half wit thats why he never ko him joe wil patse lacy hes a flash in the pan like ma last shit
Calzaghe has had bad hands and other injuries for ages now, and no wonder looking at his punching technique, this isn't something which is going to go away.
Are his hands magically going to heal between now and then, I very much doubt it. It's possible Joe could outbox Lacy, but Lacy isn't some journeyman lacking ambition, he's a fired up young champ who wants to prove himself, and if Joe's hands go, he's going to need an outstanding performance to box lacy to a standstill.
Name the last good fighter Joe Stopped.
If Lacy is as good as I think he is he should have looked sensational against Pemberton...and in my opinion he did look sensational. I didn't think he put a foot wrong and looked electric.
I believe the super middles have been crying out for a quality, exciting puncher like Lacy for years.
Some great matches out there for Jeff too. Any of the Danish trio would do nicely.
Agreed, McCrory's studio comments were ridiculous.

I don't think Lacy is unbeatable by any stretch, there are exploitable flaws there for a good stand off boxer, but it's going to take a controlled and performance and plenty of concentration. Lacy is the type who carries his power late, and that allied to his stamina, workrate and physical strength makes him a tough proposition.
Kessler might be a good bet because he has power and some boxing ability, a poweder puff puncher might struggle.

Calzaghe v Lacy, for me, is a great fight.
Just because Joe is an internationally recognised coward, doesn't mean he has no chance.
Lacy is still a relatively unknown quantity, and for me that makes this fight doubly intriguing.
A great fight with a slim chance of being made, but the biggest fight in both their careers.
As a fight fan, you got to hope it comes off.

I want to see Kessler in with Lacy or Calzaghe, i think he will give them all they can handle. Kessler hasn't got time on his side i don't think, Freiheit mentioned to me something about an injury to his back which means he will have to retire sooner rather than later. Shame Mads Larsen is embroiled in a row with Palle as he could have become a force at the weight but his best years are probably fading away.
