JULIO CEASAR CHAVEZ VS ALEXIS ARGUELLO AT 130...

Post by silkov »

This may have been brought up before but I can't remember so here goes... who would win this clash?.... Arguello for me is one of the greatest fighters I've seen and I pick him to win a real war on points... the difference being Alexis' edge in skill and ring generalship... Chavez great as he was, could be one dimensional in comparison....

There was another discussion about this, but I think it was a thread within a thread.
In that discussion, it was Arguello who was called one-dimensional, and JCC having the all-around better boxing skills.
In that thread, I went with Arguello keep JCC away with his jabs and making him pay as he came in. JCC would be able to get to Arguello's body eventually, but at what cost?
I pick Arguello in a long, tough, technical fight.

Arguello had a certain way of fighting but if you really look atbhim I don't think you could call him one-dimensional. He didn't have great footspeed, but he had such a great reach that this wasn't really a problem for him unless he was up against a speedy mover and even then he would usually wear them down. The thing about Arguello was that he was a great thinker in the ring, very clever, knew when to go to the body, when to up the pace etc. He would out think and outjab Chavez and take control of the fight by the late rounds. Chavez would be walking right into Arguellos bombs and Alexis may even win by late rounds stoppage...

This would be an awesome fight. Alot like Arguello against Pryor, but if Pryor had a better chin, slightly better boxing skills and alot better defense.
Chavez would win by tko in the tenth.

I wouldn't say Chavez had better boxing skills than Pryorr.... and defensewise Pryor could be reckless but when he wanted to he could tighten his defense somewhat. I 'd say Pryor has edge over Chavez in skill, speed and power... the speed and power are the things that caused Arguello so much trouble... against Chavez Alexis would be fighting a much slower more predictable fighter than Pryorr.
