daviddee wrote:That's a excellent list mate very well thought out. Here's my opinion on out scene.

Inverness

Gary Cornish - he is definately improving. Does he have the skills to win British Title probably not at this minute in time but he is improving fast and at heavyweight you never know

Aberdeen

Darren Traynor - I'm very impressed seen him fight and spar Ronnie a few times. With the right discipline he will win the British title at featherweight.

Mathew Mcallister - seen highlights of one of his fights was impressed looked to be very skill full and the power to match not seen enough to say how far he can go.

Lee Mccallister - My honest opinion is Lee has done brilliant out of boxing. He gets a lot of stick at times but he has done very well and I'm sure he would still compete well at British/ European level would pick him to beat Limond.

Dundee

Ronnie Clark - He is my brother but I'm also one of his harshest critics at time and he is even more harsh on himself. With the right timing and right fights Ronnie will get to at least Euro level. Has good power and a good chin

Jamie Wilson - Agree with David

Davie Drunmond - He hits very hard could be British champion age may be a factor

Mike Towell - I hear good things from the guys in Dundee but not seen him fight.

Edinburgh

John Thain - lack of power may be his down fall I hope not. One of the guys I like to watch box has a good personality

Craig Mcewan - Full of talent. He needs a break and a chance to fight the best guys I hope it happens

Steve Simmonds - Very impressed against Graf. Would he beat Dickinson and Camacho I don't know

Paul Appleby - if he can get his weight and training sorted he has the talent to get in amongst titles again

Glasgow

Ian Butcher - hard defeat to take. I had him winning I hope he can put that behind him and come back stronger. Could be a match up down the line for him v Jamie Wilson would be a cracker

Jon Slowey - Same as John Thain would love to see Slowey v Trayner as a neutral but for a British title

Michael Robert Jnr - not been impressed At all. He seems to lack snap in his punches and is easily hit. When he moves up in level he may get exposed. These things might improve with experience. He will probably fight for a title but I feel he will lose

David Brophy - not been impressed in his first few fights. But Billy is a excellent trainer I'm sure if he feels he can go far he will.. He keeps winning and that's all he needs to do

Dave Savage Jnr - he doesn't get mentioned much he is very good and when Selby moved on I'm sure we will see him fight for the British title

Ryan Collins - Another one flying under the radar. From what I see of him he works very hard and is willing to travel to spar with anyone. I think we will see big steps in 2014 from Collins. Problem is he is in a hard division

All in all I think Scottish boxing is very healthy a lot of pros coming through all it takes is for one to get the right chances at the right time and we have another World Champion. A couple of they lads have the attributes it's down to them
As for Mike Towell, I've seen a lot of him amateur. He is very aggressive and will defo be a crowd pleaser but he needs to listen to his coaches and work on his defense if he wants to go any further than boxing for the Scottish belt.

Dave Drummond is strong and fit, I remember him breaking Jackie Kubas jaw at the amateur Scottish championships with a wicked punch. It all comes down to the weight he will compete at and if he can get busier but I think he would fall short at British level.

Problem for all these guys is Ricky Burns looks to be a very fragile champion which means the big shows up here may very well be on their way out. Also surprised you reckon John Simpson is above domestic level - he's got 7 losses at domestic level!

He so fragile he's been a world champion 3 years, have a good think before you write nonsense, beleive mien I say if Ricky never sustainrped his injury I beleive Beltran would have been stopped or wide points win

People seem to forget that beltran inflicted the injury!
If or when they fight again id like to see some more head movement from ricky otherwise i can see the fight playing out the same.

If simpson had been fed the right opponents at the right time i believe he would have at least challenged for a world title but instead he has just fought every single person available to him. Great wee fighter.

A good few of Simpsons loses were tight and when I watched them I had felt he had won! The 7 loses aren't really right in my eyes and he deserved a bit better

Agree, off the top of my head, he should have got the nod against derry, dazzo williams, ste smith x 2 and appleby.

Yes that's the ones that I have seen.. Although the Derry one I didn't think he won that one he deffo won the rest of them. The Smith ones were unfair and the Andy Morris first fight if I remember rightly seemed crazy scoring. He's been in some tight fights and only been convincingly twice against Martin Lindsay and Lee Selby

Any punch can break the jaw though, David Barnes hardly threw a punch on Saturday night and Frankie Gavin still ended up with a fractured jaw, in a rematch Burns' jaw wouldn't break again, or would be very unlikely to, removing a huge advantage Beltran had.

This guy understands boxing, Beltran had a massive advantage with Ricky's injury and couldn't take advantage enough or convincingly

If he'd pushed for maybe an EBU shot after beating Lindsay instead of fighting Smith again you never know.

Yes Beltran had a massive advantage after the damage was done to Rickys jaw but what im saying is that Beltran inflicted the damage therefore deserves the credit for doing so aswell. Its not as if a bottle flew in from the crowd and broke Rickys jaw unfairly.

His jaw was broken by his opponent yet people seem to talk about it as if Beltran started the fight against an injured opponent.

Ricky done well to battle to a draw and thats down to how well conditioned and brave he was on the night but if you are going in to a rematch thinking its gonna be an easy night then i think you may be in for a shock. Beltran can bang and with or without a broken jaw, if he catches Ricky with his chin in the air.... Hes taking a seat again.

Burns at his best is more than capable of comfortably beating beltran and i hope he does but i feel beltrans efforts and ability are being under rated a bit.

No way do I think it's an easy fight but Ricky will beat this guy up I'm sure of it and don't forget Beltran knows Ricky was injured for 10 rounds and couldn't get him out of there that will play on his mind

Beltran actually did both Billy, and won clearly as far as most people were concerned. Ricky remains champ only because of some very suspect scoring in a blatant hometown decision. Don't talk sh-ite when Ricky hasn't been in form for over a year, he's scrapped by two defences by the skin of his teeth.

Can you tell me another time we've had a argument in fact?
You must be some kind of fool coz I've openly said after watching the fight on tvi thought we lost by one round, please watch the fight with the volume down and watch very carefully coz that fight was close,I had it 6 rounds each but Beltran had a knockdown, do you think I can't admit things pal? Now you answer the above question

Billy, I agree with you that Ricky will beat beltran in a rematch but only if he boxes at range. Keeps on the move and keeps the chin down. He was inviting too much punishment on the ropes by standing upright and stationary covering up. I appreciate his jaw was done in but he used similar defensive tactics at times against martinez and katsidis. Punches are gonna get through that defence and when its a big puncher like beltran then thats a dodgy chance to take.

Although id like to see burns keep beltran at range he is obviously gonna get on the inside at some point and thats when i think we will see a big difference in the rematch. Ricky was spoiling a lot during the first fight without letting his hands go when usually on the inside he manages to rough opponents up and make them fight during clinches. Thats where i seen the biggest difference in his boxing due to his jaw being fu**ed

All I'm saying is watch the first 2 rounds it was a walk in the park, ask anyone who spars Ricky when he's backed up against the ropes nobody hits him, his defence is brilliant everybody comments on it,however he was preoccupied with not being hit so his defence wasn't anywhere near as good.

Ive watched the fight 2 or 3 times Billy, i hope Ricky blows him away in spectacular fashion to silence the critics. People are too quick to jump on his/your case with abuse when things dont go to plan although im sure you can admit you dont help yourself at times on here.

Do the old trick of fighting Beltran in a huge ring.

Random question by the way but why did Ricky change back to the Reyes gloves? Couldnt he get the Grants in pink? Lol

I think if you're gona wear pink gloves then you have to surely be the most shit hot boxer in the world. It's like, there's probably 2 footballers who could get away with pink boots - Ronaldo and Messi, I see it the same in boxing!

Haha. Once the bell rings it doesnt matter if the gloves are pink or even brown.

Im a fan of the reyes gloves tho, the grants look better but i wouldnt fancy an 8oz reyes glove sinking into my temple.
