I'm interested in how changes to rules and equipment have influenced the development of the sport through different eras. I was wondering if anyone had any information on the below? Feel free to add in any more rule changes/innovations you think might have been important, or comment on how you think they've influenced the sport.
24 weigh-in
I think the WBC were the first to introduce it, anyone know when it was taken up generally?
Glove weight
When was it standardised to 8oz welter and below, and 10oz above?
Before then did everyone use 6oz gloves regardless of weight or did it vary?
Neutral corner rule
It was obviously famously used in Dempsey Tunney II (1927), anyone know when it became the standard?
Mouth guards
I know Ted Kid Lewis used one in the 1920s, when did they become compulsory?
Championship distance
From what I have read online:
- Last scheduled 45 rounder 1915
- Last scheduled 20 rounder 1941
- Last scheduled 15 rounder 1988
Thanks in advance.
