When you have to point to one of the many men Floyd didn't even knockdown let alone stop to evidence his punch power... well, it says it all.

FFS - Oscar's never been off his feet aside from the Hopkins fight and that was a body shot, against a middleweight. A horrifically weight drained Oscar was battered all over the ring by Pacquaio in their fight without once going down - so it's hardly surprising Floyd couldn't stop him is it? :witzend:

I'm not saying Floyd is a power puncher, I'm saying his punches are not 'piss-weak.'

Malignaggi is a piss weak puncher - not Floyd.
Yes he was, he was down a few times. Campanella had him down very early, so did Valenzuela.

Quartey also had him down.

Whittaker dropped him late in their fight but it is largely disputed, but he did touch down.

And for Amir to be withdrawn from the Alexander fight... seriously, has there ever in history been a more protected, connected fighter than Amir Khan? His career really is something else.

At least Amir will suffer the rare indignity of being knocked down and out by Floyd Mayweather's piss-weak punches.
Deontay Wilder in my eyes is clearly the most over protected fighter out there now. Any other candidates ??

Yes Khan was certainly protected after he got floored by Limond up to the Maidana fight. He never went near John Thaxton who was in really good form and confidence at the time. Warren getting the Kotelnik fight at a higher weight was nothing short of genius.

I think it's unfair to say Khan was protected from the Maidana fight until the Garcia fight. Think Maidana at the time had 25 Kos in 26 wins. Then when Bradley ducked him he fought the only other belt holder Zab Judah. Lamont Peterson was a solid mandatory and even after the rematch fell through he fought the next best guy in Danny Garcia.

I still agree it is a pi$$take if Khan fights Floyd next and avoids Devon Alexander. It's something he has not earned and in all honesty I don't think any fighter now should be sharing the ring with Floyd.

In history? Khan has fought a (faded) Barrera, Kotelnik, Malignaggi, Maidana, Judah, Peterson and Garcia. I'd say that aside from Matthysse, nobody at 140lb has fought consistently near that level. He might be a bit of a fool and among the least intelligent (in terms of in-ring nous) fighters I can recall seeing, but protected? Not for me.

Yes, but Wilder hasn't had anything like the exposure or opportunities Khan has had.

To my mind, Khan was lucky they stepped in to stop Barrera, because even with that cut, it looked like he was beginning to walk Khan down, and he rubberised Amir's legs with a jab. The Maidana win was a good one, as was Kotelnik, however, put him in with someone durable, with a fighting brain, and enough punch to hurt him, and Khan comes apart - he's just not very clever, and so cannot really make any adjustments.

Yes, protected is probably the wrong word, given that he's had his arse kicked badly twice, he's clearly not been protected - however, he has certainly been spoilt with opportunities based on his profile and olympic success.

Who isn't spoiled after Olympic success and the coverage it brings? It makes the promoters and managers jobs easier than building a boxer up and anyone capable of boxing at Olympic level is miles ahead of other most other boxers. Khan did fantastic at the World Juniors and at the Olympics - by any real measure he was a brilliant amateur and has packed a lot into his pro career and is 27 years old! Multi millionaire and World Champion a couple of times, beaten some good men and been chinned a couple of times.... Ten years after he's retired then people will look and see how well he's done.

He's a good fighter who's beaten some very good fighters and has been beaten by good fighters.

He's fighting at the top level and has a decent record at said level.

He has had opportunities that maybe he's been lucky to get, so what thats just life isn't it?

Is he supposed to pass up these opportunities and say 'screw it I'll do a 6 rounder at the Elephant and Castle' with a towel over his head? Is she shite.

Froch aside, he has the best current resume of any british fighter by a mile.
Yet we castigate him. Staggering

The wider economic woes since 2004 - which has affected even the deep pockets of boxing promoters and television broadcasters has been a factor; every Olympic medalist has an advantage in both marketability and public recognition and signing on bonuses and television exposure from bout number 1 are things other fledgling pros have dreams about. (Wasn't Khan the only British boxer deemed competent enough to justify sending to Athens or did they send another who wasn't able to medal and capitalise on the occasion?)

Khan largely got himself there researching it on the web and threatening to box for Pakistan. Amazing when you consider his lack of brains nowadays.

Better than Haye's? I don't think so, unified the Cruiserweight title won a version of the heavyweight title. The talent pool was not that deep at cruiserweight, but Haye was the man at the weight, more than can be said of Khan at any weight.

I think his opponents are better than Haye's in relative terms but yes I concur he hasn't achieved what Haye has in terms f being 'the man' at his weight.

How is Khan a 'two weight world champ'? What the hell?

Also, this 'two time' champ is hugely misleading. He was simply given his belt back after losing it, and then was promptly whacked.

That's a 'two time' champ? Not really. Not at all.

Spot on. Khan is the opposite of protected, he's fighting at the very top level and his record is every bit as impressive as Froch's. I really don't know what Loaded Gloves wants sometimes.

I think his trainer gave him a public bollocking; he said that for Khan to improve he needed to be training in the US under his direction - not just ticking over and having a month solid before a bout. I imagine that with a Mayweather bout being mentioned beating Alexander is even more of an imperative so not corners cut.
