Copperbox - November 30th - Chisora and Saunders again

Post by jameswilson »

After the huge success in front of an alleged capacity crowd it happens again.

Who do people reckon the opponents are going to be?

Sorry if there's a thread on this already but I couldn't spot one as I skimmed down the forum.

It must have made a shed load of money if they're putting pretty much the same card on again.

They signed a deal with the Copperbox Keith. Come on keep up! Or they will have another press conference to announce it again along with a reminder about Bill Ives's involvement!!!!

Ha'way James, if it didn't make money last time, it wouldn't be happening again.

Chisora against a top 30 European and BJS has one more defence of British right? So that.

It's a great chance to get the London ticket sellers out again and bump Del and BJS further up the rankings. Del will pay off in the end, in management fees in losing efforts in big fights.

I guess Buglioni and Mitchell Smith will be on the undercard along with Brad Skeete's title fight. Just hope the timings are better than last time out and we don't have the headliners still in the ring past 1am.

Could they get Andy Ruiz Jr over for Dereck? That would be a really good match. Don't let Ruiz Jr's doughy appearance put you off, he's got fast hands, good head movement, and he's mucho agresivo. I think Old Bob (Ruiz is a Top Rank guy) and Frank W get on pretty well, so I'm hopeful they could get something on if they wanted. Ruiz was last out in July, so the timing's about right. A genuine 50/50 fight for me. Let's get it on!

No chance uncle Bob will put Ruiz on a Warren show. Better off looking towards Europe, Charr perhaps? Pianeta? Dimitrenko?

I'd like Chisora v Charr

I'd like Chisora v Charr

Most of those guys have fights scheduled. I'm bored at work and fancy myself a match-maker so here's a run down of Derek's European options:

Kubrat Pulev - Available but unlikely as he won't want to risk his IBF mandatory status.

Tomaz Adamek - Based in the US. Unlikely to come over to UK.

Tyson Fury - Fight with Haye scheduled.

Robert Helenius - Available but unlikely given he was beaten clearly previously by Chisora.

Francesco Pianeta - Fight vs Minto next month

Alexander Dimitrenko - Available

Denis Boytsov
- Available but seemed to have already turned down the fight

Manuel Charr - Fight scheduled vs Bahktov next month.

Marius Wach - Available. Was suspended for a year; suspension might be completed by Nov. 30th

Magomed Abdusalamov - Fight with Mike Perez scheduled

Christian Hammer (who?) - Available

Alexander Ustinov - Fight vs Tua scheduled

David Price - Unlikely after 2 losses to take fight

Audley Harrison - Available. No comment

Andrzej Wawrzyk - Available. Lost in 3 to Povetkin in last fight. Might be the one.

Arnold Gjergja - Available. Unbeaten in 22 but has fought no-one of note.

Oleg Platov - Available(30-1(24kos)). Might be the one. In his only fights of note are beating an aged Akinwande by SD six years ago and was on the verge of being ko'ed by Danny Williams before bout is stopped due to a cut.

Alexander Petkovic - Available. Former crusierweight; is unbeaten in last 16 but best win is vs Timo Hoffman in last fight.

After that you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Narrowing down that list realistically you're left with Helenius, Dimitrenko, Wach, Platov & Petkovic. Platov & Petkovic are scraping the bottom of the barrel a bit but I have a feeling it will be one of those two. I'll be a very happy bunny if it's Dimitrenko, Wach or Helenius.

I notice FW has given up on small hall shows, and is going for the big events with multiple title fights approach.

Nothing like what New Age Eddie is doing then.

the selection criteria for chisora's opponent will mainly be about cost - they will aim to get away with the cheapest opponent possible. guys like pulev and adamek would want 6 digit purses, they are never going to get the call/offer. guys like charr and wach are in the process of taking no risks and just climbing the ratings by default, i reckon.

i fully expect a crap opponent to be chosen

Fr@nk has revived the "Magnificent 7" format from 3 years ago which is a good thing indeed.

That would be a very good opponent and show what level chisora is if he wins it would be a real scalp to have.

Pulev would cost money, sell no tickets, and absolutely dismantle Del - terrible opponent for him. I'd like to see him against Thompson.

For all those suggesting US opponents, the official announcement stated it would be a European title defence:

He knocked Larsen out in his last fight, he wouldn't be a bad opponent.
