If I'm sober, I have Tyson taking out Joe in 3.
If I've had a bit to drink, I have Joe surviving the early Tyson onslaught and drowning Tyson in 9.
Frazier TKOs Lewis in 11, but early rounds are quite dangerous.
Frazier kayos Klitschko in 9.

Re: Joe Frazier Versus
Holmes by unanimous decision. In a 15-rounder it would be about 9-6.
Tyson quickly. KO 2. It's been said before but the slow-starting Frazier would find himself in all kinds of trouble early against Tyson. Start the fight in the 7th round and Frazier KOs Tyson by the 10th.
Lewis by close unanimous decision. Dominates early with the jab and smart movement. But Joe keeps coming and falls a little short against a weary Lewis.
Frazier KOs Klitscho in 11. Haven't seen anyone put smart pressure on the recent version of WK. Joe would break down Wlad who would begin falling apart when things got rough.

Re: Joe Frazier Versus
I think the easier fights to call are Frazier over Tyson & Wlad. He'd move Mike back and at that point it's just a matter of time. Wlad would get brutalized in the same clinch he finds comfort in now.
Lewis and Holmes are more problematic, but at his best I like Joe by a hair over Holmes and a late stoppage over Lewis. I've recently changed my mind on Holmes/Frazier. Worry about Larry's uppercut, but prime Joe moved forward faster than Larry could move away.

Re: Joe Frazier Versus
I'd favor a peak Frazier over all of them.

Sorry Yancey, but your a bit lame on this assessment. Oh, and I know your sandbaggin for me to come in and rescue your judgment here.
Anyway, Joe with both eyes in top condition could and would bob and weave and had a sharper eye for incoming than he's given credit for....a lot due to the fact that some of his best work was done when his vision was not at peak, and he just didn't give a rats ass about what an opponent was up to.
Anyway, I think, and I'd bet he takes enough of the heart out of Mike early to keep Mike respectful, and seal Tyson's fate. Yep Joe was a slow starter at times, but he wasn't a dumb starter. I think he'd leave the first rounds with the same smile he walked away from Jerry with, after an early round.
But Joe and Holy? I'd put money that this matchup would be one of the best fights to watch that could ever be made. Starting with the staredown. I think if I was the ref....I'd want to do my job from the other side of the ropes.

Lame, eh?
Maybe I need to enroll in the Granberry School of Primal.
The first two rounds with Tyson would see me covering my eyes, but Joe may well get it.

Yes, Joe would move Tyson back and that would signal the inevitable.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I think the easier fights to call are Frazier over Tyson & Wlad. He'd move Mike back and at that point it's just a matter of time. Wlad would get brutalized in the same clinch he finds comfort in now.

But it is the two rounds before we get to the moving back stage that concern me.
Re: Joe Frazier Versus
With Tyson I'm never sure if Frazier's survives the early onslaught...if he makes it out of Round 3, I think he stops Mike...but it's a big if.
I think he'd defeat Lennox Lewis or Wladimir Klitschko personally. Though I could see either of them outboxing him...especially Lennox..I think he catches either his big hook sooner or later and ends things.
I don't think he'd beat Larry Holmes, but he'd give him hell just like he always did Ali.

That big body of Holmes would be such a juicy target for arguably the best body puncher in heavy history.gilgamesh wrote:With Tyson I'm never sure if Frazier's survives the early onslaught...if he makes it out of Round 3, I think he stops Mike...but it's a big if.

Frazier wears Larry down and either stops him late or gets a close decision.

It wouldn't shock me if Frazier came out on top there, but I'd pick Larry more often than not.yancey wrote:That big body of Holmes would be such a juicy target for arguably the best body puncher in heavy history.gilgamesh wrote:With Tyson I'm never sure if Frazier's survives the early onslaught...if he makes it out of Round 3, I think he stops Mike...but it's a big if.

If they fought 3 times I figure Larry would win 2 of them.
Re: Joe Frazier Versus
Frazier would beat Holmes. Joe was best against boxers. I think he wins this one.
I think he beats Lewis too. But Lewis's right hand makes it more dangerous for Joe. Occasionally he gets caught early and stopped out Lewis does enough damage to seriously hinder Joe when he goes get started. But more often than not it's Joe's fight.
Tyson... I think Mike gets to him first. Would love to be proved wrong on that.
Wlad... again similar to Lewis but odds in Joe's favour are a little better.

Re: Joe Frazier Versus
The only difference in a hypothetical Frazier v Tyson bout would be what eras it would be taking place in. In Frazier's, Joe probably goes down 6 times before it's stopped, in Tyson's probably only 3.

Why are you giving Joe so little of a chance?
Re: Joe Frazier Versus
If this is Tyson when he first won the title, then he hits harder, faster and more accurate than Frazier, and he had excellent head movement and ability to slip punches as well. Frazier's strategy of "I'll just keep throwing left hooks till something happens" isn't going to save him from getting hit hard, early and often.

1) Larry Holmes on points.
2) Tyson by early(ish TKO). He starts too fast & lays hurt on Frazier early who needs time to warm up.
3) Lewis pre 1994 gets sparked; Lewis post 1995 wins on points.
4) Frazier brutalises Wladimir & stops him mid to late.

I don't think it would take 2 rounds, it's not like Joe was incapable of punching early. Tyson would know who was standing across from him, he wouldn't treat him like a palooka.yancey wrote:Yes, Joe would move Tyson back and that would signal the inevitable.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I think the easier fights to call are Frazier over Tyson & Wlad. Frazier's head movement was far superior to Tyson's.Seamus wrote:If this is Tyson when he first won the title, then he hits harder, faster and more accurate than Frazier, and he had excellent head movement and ability to slip punches as well. Re: Joe Frazier Versus
In his prime around 69-70 Frazier was not as left hook happy as he became after FOTC. He had a pretty varied attack and a good right hand, he could even throw a decent jab when he wanted to. Another thing is that Tyson could not fight on the inside while Joe was a great inside fighter.Seamus wrote:If this is Tyson when he first won the title, then he hits harder, faster and more accurate than Frazier, and he had excellent head movement and ability to slip punches as well. Re: Joe Frazier Versus
None of them beats the great fighting machine of Smoking Joe circa 1967-71.
Of all of them, the great Larry Holmes would be the hardest test for Joe.
