Steve Bunce
Re: Steve Bunce
Honestly it blows me away...
I've been a fan of boxing for about 30 years. I'm not an insider. I don't have any links with the sport. I can't fight...well I can have a go, but you know what I mean...
When I first found Boxrec it was like being there at the beginning of the universe. All these other people who love the sport and want to talk about it.
And I'll admit it I still get excited when someone from within the sport posts...boxer, trainer, journo, whatever... That's because I love the sport. Why people come on and make rude comments to people within the game it just startles me. And if you are actually courteous to people, you know, like real life, then you're accused of being an arse kisser... What ever happened to just being a decent sort of bloke? I respect people in the sport. I don't know why anyone wouldn't...
Steve Bunce is there for boxing. I love his shows. But then I'd pretty much love watching anyone discuss boxing. I don't get why some people don't...
I'd love to meet Buncey. I'd love to sit on that sofa and talk with his guests. Maybe he should have a fan slot once every couple of months. In fact Buncey could have a bit of a laugh with it and call it "The Keyboard Warriors Two Minutes Of Fame" have a recording of some poster having a rant.
What about Terry Dooley? Not as a keyboard warrior... but as an up and coming boxing writer who has a great future. Buncey should get him on the sofa. Give boxing writers like him a voice/chance... Terry could talk about fights coming up etc... I'm sure there are other young writers out there too.

Re: Steve Bunce
...since when has Bunce done shit to help others report on the sport? In the iFilm London video he seemed VERY begrudging to say that what James and Kassius did was "coverage" (sorry but I dislike that word), he seemed unwilling to give Wingy any time and I assume numerous other have been "run off the road" by him...
Re: Steve Bunce
People criticise him for being biased, but as the saying goes "don't bite the hand that feeds you" He has bills to pay like everyone else and so has to stick to the company line on things, which is fair enough for me.

Re: Steve Bunce
I will say this, when I wrote Charlie Magri's book for him, Buncey was very generous with his praise when he was on radio 5 live, even though I was officially a ghost writer, he made a point of saying what a great job I did - which was very much appreciated. Didn't have to, and nobody asked him to, but did it anyway, which I thought was a nice gesture.iamasadlittleboy wrote:...since when has Bunce done poo to help others report on the sport? I may criticize him from time to time, and he's not always my cup of team, but fair's fair.

Yep, god knows, it's hard to make a living as a boxing journo - christ knows I tried for several years and never managed it, despite working my nads off writing between 5-10 k words a week.expe wrote:People criticise him for being biased, but as the saying goes "don't bite the hand that feeds you" He has bills to pay like everyone else and so has to stick to the company line on things, which is fair enough for me.

Re: Steve Bunce
Bunce is alright, he's just old school and prefers his traditional media. ifilm stuff is great, I love watching the press conferences and the interviews are more raw and authentic then standard TV stuff.
Bunce's voice makes him sound as though he's this happy go lucky character who can take a bit of stick but he came across quite serious and cantancerous in the ifilm interview.
Interested to know why ifilm fell out with Mr W and why Bunce fell out with Mickey Duff?

Bunce is one of us. Great chap.
Re: Steve Bunce
The irony of this statement is that he refuses to accept he's one of us... hence him treating those on the forums as "the great unwashed"....IrishPaddy wrote:Bunce is one of us. Great chap.

Re: Steve Bunce
You're completely missing the point. People don't criticise him for being biased, they criticise him for claiming to be objective when he's clearly not.expe wrote:People criticise him for being biased, but as the saying goes "don't bite the hand that feeds you" He has bills to pay like everyone else and so has to stick to the company line on things, which is fair enough for me.
